Good even in bad movies, great in good ones. Either way, she sure works a lot.

There are a ton of these I haven't seen, but I think "Flight of the Red Balloon" is my favorite role of the ones I have.

like Deneuve she's done her best work this decade.

Her best:

Rendez-vous
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Blue
Flight of the Red Balloon
Summer Hours
Certified Copy

Certified Copy, and not just because that's the one I've seen most recently. (OK, maybe because that's the one I've seen most recently.)

I'm a sucker for Lovers on the Bridge, too. Hard to pull off the artist-going-blind shtick, but she does.

good poll. she's worked with so many amazing directors. I could easily vote for Blue, Cache or Certified Copy but I'm going with Flight of the red balloon because I loved her performance in that.

The outlier is probably Dan in Real Life, but she was pretty adorable in that. (And I'll take it over Chocolat any day.)

I remember the genuine shock when she won the Oscar in '96. David Thomson said afterwards that Lauren Bacall proved what a bad actress she always was by the terrible way in which she faked glee.

looking fwd to Mauvais Sang re-release this fall, but for now Certified Copy, then Code Inconnu. She was in Hail Mary?

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 24 October 2013 00:53 (eleven years ago)

lovers on the bridge over blue and summer hours. kinda despise unbearable lightness of being and definitely despise the english patient but she's wonderful in both.

She was in Hail Mary?

She plays one of Mary's friends. IIRC, Binoche's big scene involves her trying to persuade Joseph to leave Mary for her.

Mauvais Sang is not my thing but Code Inconnu is one of the best movies I've ever seen and far and away that Austrian's best

really looking forward to seeing Binoche working w/ Dumont

so many here i cld vote for, but went for Summer Hours because it's quite an un-binoche-like performance - relaxed, middle-aged, faintly bourgeois, and acting as part of an ensemble

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 24 October 2013 07:59 (eleven years ago)

les amants du pont neuf probably

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 24 October 2013 08:01 (eleven years ago)

That pont movie was really not my thing

Laquelle quoi?

Performance, evidemment.

Voted Mauvais Sang, can hardly say why. There is just something about the interplay between her and Lavant. Iconic. Other favorites are obviously Code Inconnu and Flight of the Red Balloon. Was quite dissapointed with Certified Copy when I finally got to see it, I must say, but Binoche was fine in it.
