It's the most exciting new series of the autumn, and it lasts until Easter. Time for a new thread so we can talk about what will almost certainly be five months of lurid revelations and extreme embarrassment to David Cameron.

HYPED

Dunno about the worst post, but that picture of Clarkson, papoose-wearing Cameron and Alex James lurkery might be the worst picture I've ever seen.

ailsa, Monday, 28 October 2013 11:31 (eleven years ago)

James looks like he really wants to be Jezza there

Too bad the prosecution haven't seen fit to give us the scale of Ross Kemp/Coulson overlap.

She wrote: "The fact is you are my very best friend, I tell you everything, I confide in you, I seek your advice, I love you, care about you, worry about you, we laugh and cry together."

*gag*

Can't work out whether the fact that a few defendants have already plead guilty means they are likely to spills some very unpleasant beans or clam up altogether

It is not clear whether Mr Coulson ever received the letter, which was found on a Word document on a computer hidden in a cupboard.

"...Finally and the least of our worries, but how do we really work this new relationship?
There are a hundred things that have happened since Saturday night that I would normally share with you... some important, most trivial.
The fact is you are my very best friend. I tell you everything, I confide in you, I seek your advice, I love you, care about you, worry about you.
We laugh and cry together... infact without our relationship in my life, I am really not sure how I will cope.
I'm frightened to be without you... but bearing in mind 'the rules' you will not know how I am doing and visa versa.
The thought of finding out anything about you or your life from someone else fills me with absolute dread.
Also you said I had to email you if anything important happened... like if I was ill? I don't understand this... we are either there for each other or not surely?

Anyway, that really isn't where I am confused. I know what horror it means and I know why we have to stick to it.
But for example, how does this work thing manifest itself. Do we limit contact until we absolutely have too... like leaving our execs to sort run of the mill joint stuff?
I don't want to get this wrong. I hope that I've managed to put your mind at rest about Les..and that you two now have a better relationship.
On KRM, well he's not b********* you must not brood on lack of calls.
Obviously I can't discuss my worries, concerns, problems at work with you anymore.. and visa versa.. but I'll assume unless I hear different that we keep our professional relationship to the minimum.. and avoid if possible without it being in any way awkward.
If it is necessary or more importantly right that we two editors should deal with it, then we will.
If either of us feels that we are not striking this balance then we must say..??"

sad and pathetic letter that magically humanises no-one

conrad, Friday, 1 November 2013 14:11 (eleven years ago)

L&G, I give you: 'infact', 'have too' and 'visa versa'. As if I needed any more reason to despise Rebekah Brooks. I bet this supid twunt writes 'formally' when she means 'formerly'.

Holy shit @ virtually everything about this.

Matt DC, Friday, 1 November 2013 14:55 (eleven years ago)

yeah it did make me think you imagine these ~powerful~ people striding around daily self-possessed and ultra-confident but actually they're thinking "gonna be weird if I have to see this guy or avoid this guy" meanwhile still being evil and thinking it's "visa versa"

xpost

conrad, Friday, 1 November 2013 14:58 (eleven years ago)

Just imagine Coulson, sitting morosely by the phone, wondering if King Rupert Murdoch will deign to call him that day, and if so how much he knows, and whether he's no longer the chosen one, and then unburdening all this to Rebekah. </violins>

Matt DC, Friday, 1 November 2013 15:01 (eleven years ago)

What does "b*********" mean?

Eyeball Kicks, Friday, 1 November 2013 15:17 (eleven years ago)

the key element for me is the involvement of poor old ross kemp of eastenders and folded magazine pictures fame. makes it properly british to its very core, so grotty and ridiculous

yeah and look, I got the answer in less than 60 seconds. that's how you do it man, no fucking around.

Eyeball Kicks, Friday, 1 November 2013 15:23 (eleven years ago)

Now they're alleging that Brooks authorised payments to an MoD official that led to the hacking of Prince Harry's phone when he was at Sandhurst.

Newscorp rumoured to have spent over £60m on defending Coulson, Brooks and three others.

five years pass...

They both avoided any jail time at all, right? And went on to further lucrative careers?

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Friday, 5 June 2020 07:18 (five years ago)

IIRC Brooks resigned from News International (or whatever), was given a payoff of millions of pounds, was acquitted in the phone hacking trial and is now back working for the Murdochs.

Coulson actually went to prison for a bit I think?
