man getting a real serious Lou Reed vibe from his diction/intonation

I mean maybe if it was still the early eighties and you still had to go to Bleecker Bob's to get your VU or you were an Onion Area man stuck in the 80s, but all the intervening decades of Tower and Virgin megastores, deluxe box sets reissues, MTV, cable television, streaming services, PBS documentaries, Trainspotting, Doors Movie cameo, Wes Anderson movies, entire generations of bands citing them as an influence, generation that would know who he was all grown up and running things, the Czech's naming a revolution after them, the Israeli's naming a spider after him. My dad, like PPs, wouldn't know who he was, but he wouldn't be able to name a Beatles tune either. Not a good sample set.

Gandolfini much less interesting here than in the Chase rock movie, so yeah I'll probably never watch The Sopranos.

Yeah organ was p common in the mid60s, but love it or hate it you're silly to argue that manzarek didn't have a pretty distinctive style

You're stacking the deck in that case, but, yes, I'd allude to their, er, fraught relationship – in the same way that I'd mention George Jones and Tammy Wynette's or Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's. I object, though, to dismissing Brown because he's an asshole. He's an asshole who makes dull or worse music. If I liked the material, then we're in Lou Reed territory.

Dixon, A./Hermansen, T.E./Mikkel SE/Nash, S./Hallgeir Rustan/Washington, S.
Selina Washington! That was it, yes. The thing about Mis-Teeq, it occurs to me, is the extent to which they followed the older-school template for girl bands - the one who carries most of the singing duties (Selina/Barlow/Ronang/Filang), the "rogue element" one who takes lead vocals sometimes and suggests danger, creativity, flirtatiousness etc. (Alesha/Robbeh/Stephen Gately's Eyebrow/Brian McFadden's Parka), and the one who stands with them, fills up the stage a bit, backs up the chorus but otherwise doesn't seem to do much of anything (Su-Elise/Howard & Jason/any other member of Boyzone and Westlife). Mark Owen doesn't fit this template, no. Good old Mark.

This had increasingly become usurped by the pack singing style, where everyone has to bring something to the table and take lead duties - the Spice Girls seem a key example of it, and this style persisted with Sugababes and, to some extent, Girls Aloud (though they kind of straddle the two styles a bit...). With Mis-Teeq, though, Alesha was that much of a rogue element that their more trad set-up kind of got overlooked - her voice was that gruff and her expression was that strong that she blew them clean out of the water. What's really weird is that this song was ruddy HUGE - they'd got this high up in the charts before, but never made such an impact - and they only had two singles left in their career.
It was kept off number one by Gareth Gates & The Kumars, btw.

During an early scene when Philip Seymour Hoffman is sitting on a lawn chair, he lifts his leg in the air while laughing. His genitals were fully visible for a split second; this was edited out for DVD and VHS releases, but was leaked from VHS screeners sent to industry professionals.

I think the split is Casale's band (rockers and revolutionaries)/Mothersbaugh's band (future musicians and conceptualists) to a large extent, with Myers being a huge part of Casale's concept. Myers also replaced a Mothersbaugh, which balanced out the numbers.

Saturday morning, I was buying tires at Sam's. Two guys behind me- one older Jerry Van Dyke fella and this big middle-aged black guy wearing an Alabama sweater.

"Whoa there, pard!" says Jerry. "When the shooter comes in here, he might aim for your Tide logo and hit me instead!"

"Haha," said the big guy. "Happens every week now, don't it!"
