I guess Business Insider didn't give any state the classic barbecue (pulled/chopped smoked pork shoulder) because at least 2 or 3 states that didn't get it would pitch a fit.

The Horseshoe should NOT be the Illinois sandwich. It is a downstate thing, served only in a few southern Illinois towns. Most people in Chicago have never eaten it, or even heard of it, so who is the goof that chose it? Now, if they had chose Italian Beef, roasted in-house, sliced thin, served on Italian bread, and soaked with au jus, so you have to lean forward to eat it or risk juice running down your shirt, that might have made sense. Or a Chicago Dog, dragged through the garden, and NEVER having catsup near it.

This is like a sequel to the silly Gawker/Deadspin/whatever post assigning a popular food to every state, which apparently got just about every state's popular food wrong in comically spectacular fashion.

Leave it to a Chicagoan to try to make a hot dog the state sandwich.
