Simpsons will never end

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 25 November 2013 18:03 (eleven years ago)

i think all these shows are going to go on until an irreplaceable voice actor dies, and Castallellaneta, Kavner, etc. are 10-20 years older than MacFarlane or Parker/Stone, so I voted for The Simpsons.

some dude, Monday, 25 November 2013 18:06 (eleven years ago)

i mean there is an infuriatingly plausible reality in which The Simpsons keeps going with a new Homer voice, but I'm gonna put my money on that not happening for the sake of my sanity.

some dude, Monday, 25 November 2013 18:08 (eleven years ago)

maybe MacFarlane will take over when the original Simpsons voice cast dies

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Monday, 25 November 2013 18:32 (eleven years ago)

Family Guy might lose steam and get canceled for poor ratings eventually, but i kinda doubt it. i feel like the more likely scenario is that one of the new shows FOX gives MacFarlane every couple years takes off big time and/or he keeps making movies as popular as Ted every couple years and he finally goes "Family Guy has run its course, i'm going to focus on other projects."

deX! (DJP), Monday, 25 November 2013 18:39 (eleven years ago)

i'm voting "south park" only cuz i think it seems most likely that parker & stone get bored with the tv show and go and do something else

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 25 November 2013 18:40 (eleven years ago)

DJP you forgot Cosmos

polyphonic, Monday, 25 November 2013 18:41 (eleven years ago)

American Dad is moving to TBS isn't it? Not immediately, but next season I think.

South Park is probably the least-watched, but it's on Comedy Central so the demand for eyeballs is lessened. Even so, I agree that Parker & Stone will eventually want to do about a thousand other things and South Park will have to wind down.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 25 November 2013 18:44 (eleven years ago)

there's some financial incentive for fox letting the simpsons end iirc from talk from when they almost canceled it a couple of years ago though i think that maybe got cleared up between then and whatever they announced a couple of weeks ago w/ streaming simpsons, simpsons reruns on fxx, whatever. voting south park.

balls, Monday, 25 November 2013 18:47 (eleven years ago)

"Dads" hasn't been canceled yet and apparently he has another new show called "Bordertown" debuting next year, so the number of MacFarlane shows on FOX is still hovering around 3

I mean also, FG is so nihilistic/inconsistent that viewers probably can't form the same affinity for the characters as they would a Homer Simpson or Eric Cartman

imago-er not a show-er (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 25 November 2013 19:07 (eleven years ago)

i mean... there are people genuinely upset as we speak that they "killed" the dog character that has the same voice and personality as 50 other MacFarlane characters. people are mourning a poor drawing of a dog right now.

some dude, Monday, 25 November 2013 19:09 (eleven years ago)

and he finally goes "Family Guy has run its course, i'm going to focus on other projects."

didn't he basically say this a year ago?

I voted South Park because unlike Seth I feel like Parker/Stone have legitimate talent outside of that show and in watching their interviews and that documentary that came out a few years ago it seems like they're kinda sick of doing SP and don't really have the time to make it as good as they want to. Then again I thought the show was going to end after "You're Getting Old" and here we (still) are

Simpsons will probably never consider ending until one of the voice actors dies

frogbs, Monday, 25 November 2013 19:09 (eleven years ago)

family guy dying first is wishful thinking. if the simpsons can last so long after so many boring seasons clawing its way back to mediocrity, easy stuff like FG will last

Stone/Parker just getting sick of it seems most likely out of the three to me. or them just sitting on their asses watching cable TV instead of going into "work" permanently instead of just every other day

brian died? i guess i should watch the episode...

Nhex, Monday, 25 November 2013 19:11 (eleven years ago)

FG is the only one whose creator has actually said it's gone on too long, so that one.

South Park averages 3-5 good-to-great episodes a season, which is way more than the other two can say.

Simon H., Monday, 25 November 2013 19:11 (eleven years ago)

had no idea south park was still putting out new episodes, is it any good anymore?

Because if it was really Brian, then there's no other way to vote for this poll except Family Guy. That character was Seth MacFarlane incarnate and if he's dead, the whole show's about to go.

maybe this is naive but i kind of assume that The Simpsons exists more to fatten the pockets of Groenig/the main voice cast than the network or anyone else, and that core group has worked together for 25 years and seems pretty loyal to each other. i just kinda see them going out more like the Beastie Boys than The Who.

She's (jarringly and unconvincingly) voiced by Tress MacNeille now. But the character had been retired for 10 years after Doris Grau's death. Dunno why they decided to resurrect her, other than that the writers had run out of shitty ideas, and had to dip into really shitty ideas.
