Sylvan cinema: let us talk about films of the forest

Tell me about your favourite films where woodland or forests have a significant presence, whether that is benign or malevolent or otherwise. Any genre will do, I just want a winter of getting lost in the trees.

Yeah, I'm expecting a lot of horror to show up. I guess Blair Witch is a great example of a movie where seemingly the forest itself acts against humans by somehow constantly shifting its geography and losing them amid the folds of the map.

Oh I haven't seen that!

The Robin Hood stuff is fairly out there for showing the woods as a place of refuge and safety, I guess Bambi is a little like that too. What else? Feels like in most cinema, the forest is a place where lions and tigers and other decidedly bad things lurk.

Princess Mononoke. I wish more movies would spiritualize the forest like that, make it into a unified living presence.

The recent trend of 3D movies tend to foreground the environment more for the sake of added visuals

I sometimes enjoy watching films made for 3D in 2D because you get these long extended shots made for the 3D version, makes the movie kind of weird
