Probably better served as a poll, but my top ten for the year are:

breaking bad
justified
the americans
game of thrones
veep
the eric andre show
eagleheart
getting on
it's always sunny in philadelphia
adventure time

followed by:
key and peele, the venture brothers, family tree, regular show, sword art online, archer, real sports, newsreaders, modern family, 30 for 30, girls, inside comedy, rick and morty, masters of sex, children's hospital, the blacklist, Aqua Teen Whatever, Your pretty face is going to hell, uncle grandpa

second tier stuff that doesn't quite fit the narrative would include jeopardy, american masters, independent lens, nature, great performances, pov, antiques roadshow, moyers and company

i need to start or catch up on treme, boardwalk empire, time of death, longmire, the returned, homeland, ray donovan

can't really do standard sitcoms (with the exception of modern family); what am i missing?

Murgatroid, Tuesday, 24 December 2013 17:16 (eleven years ago)

Pointless

ailsa, Tuesday, 24 December 2013 17:22 (eleven years ago)

You need The Good Wife.

Matt Groening is MY Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 24 December 2013 17:30 (eleven years ago)

I'm just not ready to start watching CBS dramas yet. Give me a few decades.

Murgatroid, Tuesday, 24 December 2013 17:40 (eleven years ago)

Well it flirts with being The Wire of network shows (bitcoin, NSA, social media, etc.), also, sexy as hell (insert Archie Panjabi gifs).

And seconding "The Five(ish) Doctors."

Matt Groening is MY Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 24 December 2013 17:50 (eleven years ago)

i guess mad men in there somewhere as well. i'm having to check as to when a lot of this stuff aired.

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 December 2013 19:14 (eleven years ago)

bravest warriors

Mordy , Tuesday, 24 December 2013 19:32 (eleven years ago)

mordy, we did a "best tv on right now". nobody's doing a best of 2013 poll-style. no idea whether that's necessary or what, but it reminded me that top of the lake was this year; completely forgot about that.

so a revamped top ten tv of 2013 for me would be breaking bad, veep, top of the lake, eagleheart, getting on, the eric andre show, game of thrones, justified, the americans and enlightened.

four hour long dramas about people behaving badly, three smarter-than-they-should-be half hour hbo comedy dramas, two fifteen minute live action dada metafests and one show about dragons.

Totally Biased

polyphonic, Tuesday, 24 December 2013 20:07 (eleven years ago)

^^ Yes.

Matt Groening is MY Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 24 December 2013 20:18 (eleven years ago)

TV has become so fiendishly pervasive in my life in the last year, some episodes have seriously emotionally superseded important rl stuff, but hey it makes me happy. BB, Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones, Mad Men, Justified, American Horror Story, The Returned, Banshee, Veep, The Americans, The Walking Dead, Orphan Black, Top Of The Lake, The Fall, Hannibal, Enlightened and Eastbound & Down.

other stuff

S2 of Revolution got a bit better but still only tepidly watch-able. Darabont's Mob City isn't too bad, a lot better than the damning reviews suggest. I actually stuck with Siberia and would watch a second season but I am easily pleased. Fuck I even watched all of Vikings!

Al He Miola (Spottie), Wednesday, 25 December 2013 04:40 (eleven years ago)

Renewed for a second season of 10 eps. It's great.

Ian Glasper's trapped in a scone (aldo), Wednesday, 25 December 2013 17:30 (eleven years ago)

first episode of rectify is great

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 25 December 2013 17:34 (eleven years ago)

feel like I've been watching all the wrong shows this year. :/

Top picks:

Hannibal
Bunheads
Orphan Black
The Mindy Project
New Girl
Veep
Doctor Who
Game of Thrones

Still enjoying despite ridiculously stupid plotlines/characters:
Scandal
The Vampire Diaries

Not really sure why I'm still watching:
Revenge
Mad Men
Homeland

Roz, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 18:57 (eleven years ago)

Roz, are you watching The Originals? It's as good as TVD S2 right now, IMO.

Murgatroid, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 18:59 (eleven years ago)

I'm not but yeah, have been hearing good things about it! I might catch up on it later when I have the time.

(Yay, someone else watches TVD besides me haha. tbh I pretty much only watch it because every single person on the show is insanely hot.)

Roz, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 19:31 (eleven years ago)

I'll still stick with mad men but def done with homeland. Kinda crazy to see people turning on it. I thought it was universally loved even still.

Spottie, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 19:33 (eleven years ago)

Oddly enough, I don't really find anyone on the show all that attractive. I dunno, I watch it because that and The Originals manage to be the most crazily paced shows on TV.

Murgatroid, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 19:37 (eleven years ago)

I mean, unless you include The Originals, which in case, Elijah, daaaaaaaamn.

Murgatroid, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 19:38 (eleven years ago)

Elijah, yes! I def find all the Originals more attractive than anyone in the current TVD cast, apart from Caroline. (RIP Alaric <3). The only reason I haven't started watching it yet is time.

But yeah I agree, there's something addictive about how many plot twists TVD can squeeze in a 40-min episode - almost as good as Gossip Girl was at its peak.

Roz, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 20:38 (eleven years ago)

miss u S1-2 Gossip Girl

Murgatroid, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 20:39 (eleven years ago)

can anyone vouch for House of Cards, everyone irl is telling me to watch it.

Spottie, Friday, 27 December 2013 04:34 (eleven years ago)

no

Simon H., Friday, 27 December 2013 04:47 (eleven years ago)

that bad?

Spottie, Friday, 27 December 2013 04:48 (eleven years ago)

just watch it, whatever

j., Friday, 27 December 2013 04:58 (eleven years ago)

not bad, just...there. too much awesome TV to worry about the middling stuff imo

Simon H., Friday, 27 December 2013 05:05 (eleven years ago)

ha, true.

Nhex, Friday, 27 December 2013 05:22 (eleven years ago)

alright, started up on Hannibal yesterday, seems good after a couple eps

Spottie, Friday, 27 December 2013 05:28 (eleven years ago)

How grotesque does Hannibal get? I have a delicate constitution re: body mutilation.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 27 December 2013 05:53 (eleven years ago)

um...

Simon H., Friday, 27 December 2013 06:32 (eleven years ago)

It gets pretty gross sometimes.

Murgatroid, Friday, 27 December 2013 06:45 (eleven years ago)

Especially with body mutilation. Surprisingly graphic for network TV.

Murgatroid, Friday, 27 December 2013 06:46 (eleven years ago)

I suspected that, and I know people love it, but it may just be one I never watch.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 27 December 2013 06:49 (eleven years ago)

Just rewatched all of Eric Andre in one sitting. The absolute exemplar of that kind of TV. In tears so many times, laughing at stuff I'd already seen.

Sewer Stew (Old Lunch), Friday, 27 December 2013 06:57 (eleven years ago)

I don't really watch real-time TV and don't have cable so I'm pretty behind on everything so my list would be
1. Nathan For You
b/c that show is AMAZING.

Immediate Follower (NA), Monday, 30 December 2013 21:06 (eleven years ago)

oh I forgot about Nathan For You!

polyphonic, Monday, 30 December 2013 21:14 (eleven years ago)

It really transcends the cringe-y prank show genre, especially due to his willingness to follow weird tangents and digressions from the main action.

Immediate Follower (NA), Monday, 30 December 2013 21:25 (eleven years ago)

Like the gift that Nathan gave the funeral home director to give back to Nathan, or the cigar store indian surveillance of the Librarian's Quest surveillance of the large-chested lady. Stuff like that absolutely kills me.

Sewer Stew (Old Lunch), Monday, 30 December 2013 21:51 (eleven years ago)

My favorite one so far is the end of the gas station rebate episode, with the gas station owner totally confusing Nathan by talking about how he drinks his grandson's urine.

Immediate Follower (NA), Monday, 30 December 2013 21:54 (eleven years ago)

Doggy Styling, from tonight's Channel 4.
