two weeks pass...

I got a new job. I'll still be working in a very niche special library but in a different (more interesting) niche, plus I'll be doing more info/taxonomy management stuff. And my new library is only open to the public by appointment, so even less public contact than I currently have.

A public library who is only opened to a select few.

Gentlemen, I don't mean to take anything away from our friend Ned, but let me direct you to the new I Love Everything thread Experimental comedy, yours or otherwise.

I appreciate your participation.

info/taxonomy management is cool. are you doing custom subject vocabularies? congrats on the new job.

Thanks. The taxonomy has already been developed (custom-made for the org) but I'm assuming there's some wiggle room to add/shift terms around if needed. I don't really know that much about info management so I'm excited to learn.

last year marcos hipped me to code4lib's job listings. after a phone interview and a lengthy wait (academic hiring) i have been invited to an in-person interview for a faculty position at a prestigious university in nyc. full-on make-a-presentation, do-a-q-and-a all-day affair. like a fucking grown-up.

so thanks marcos and thanks ilx librarian thread!

damn, good work. best of luck!

i often stare longingly at the c4l job listings. but i have no real coding experience and my current job is not going to give me any anytime soon. i could be learning so much. i guess i am getting pretty good at adjusting color balances in Photoshop depending on what my boss thinks is pretty this week.

have we discussed how c0ntentdm is garbageware and a giant swindle, one of many proffered and taken by digitally dumb and scared boomer librarians who just. won't. retire. *clears throat*

thinking a lot about management of digital images + pdfs. given lack of en effective dam, and possible forced migration to new dam in coming years, my instinct is to embed the metadata in the files, which is what i've been doing on the d/l for a few months. the scenario in which i explain all this has yet to reveal itself.

one month passes...

interview went well, i guess? who can tell. they didn't, like, laugh and have me escorted out of the building. now to play the academic hiring waiting game.

yo, ned, a colleague/friend of mine is applying for a job at your spot, is it cool to email you off-board and pump you for info?

adam, Thursday, 27 February 2014 20:03 (eleven years ago)

as you can see people are jumping ship from my current institution with the quickness.

adam, Thursday, 27 February 2014 20:04 (eleven years ago)

hey adam, congrats on the interview. glad to share c4l job listings! that's great dude

marcos, Friday, 7 March 2014 19:36 (eleven years ago)
