should i emigrate?

Having lived in lincolnshire for my entire 23yr existence, it has come to my attention that England is now a horrible, crime-riddled place, not safe for human habitation. Is it just me, or have things gone majorly down hill over the last few years? Should i leave this once green and pleasant land and if so, where should I go?

Move to France. Move to Germany. Move to Japan.

Who cares? Go somewhere and learn something new.

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 6 October 2002 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Those mean streets of lincolnshire are indeed hell on earth.

Hasn't crime dropped in the last few years?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 6 October 2002 11:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Robin Hood was Nottinghamshire, despite the tunic colouring.

If you insist on telling jokes as bad as the one about the man with an orange for his head you should definitely emigrate.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 6 October 2002 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

billy the orange head joke is the best joke ever!!!

mitchlLastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Sunday, 6 October 2002 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Here's a good joke.

Me: What's nasty, British and short?

You: I don't know, what is nasty, Bri-- (dies before getting a chance to emigrate).

Momus (Momus), Sunday, 6 October 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm 5'7, Momus, so the correct answer turns out to be me.

American cities = not that much better. You should move to Antartica, it's probably safe.

lyra (lyra), Sunday, 6 October 2002 13:49 (twenty-three years ago)

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 6 October 2002 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

the country where I quite wamnt to be pony trekking or camping...or just watching TV...

Ashley Andel, Sunday, 6 October 2002 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

I am just about to retun home after two years of living in the UK. Being English you are very lucky in that you can move all over Europe with no drama; I wish I could do that.

Leaving my country has been very difficult, but in retrospect utterly necesary.

Otherwise, chck this out -

Canada has a very open immigration policy, if that helps. The door is open, come on in!

Miss Laura, Monday, 7 October 2002 07:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Canada's not that easy to get into - my friend and her girlfriend have been looking into emigrating, and they would have loved to go to canada. My friend is now a civil servant, working at the scottish exec, but she's got a phd in enclosed nuns in medieval italy, so she could get in, as medieval historians are in a shortage apparently. (?!) However, her girlfriend is a lawyer, which is not on the list of required careers. Para-legals are, which she could do standing on her head, but they wouldn't let her do that. So they can't go.

They can go to New Zealand however, and have got everything planned to go out next summer :0(

Mind you, yet another holiday destination!

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 7 October 2002 08:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Just out of curiosity, what was going to be difficult about emigrating to Canada? As an aside, the Queen is in my city tomorrow. Should I bother to go see her?

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but only if you plan to throw rotten tomatos. Singing "God Save the Queen" Pistols- (or Motorhead-) style would be ok, too.

Miss Laura, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

the difficulty was that she didn't have a required career and therefore she couldn't get the relevant paperwork to allow her to work.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Bastards. I'm going to go see the Queen. I might kill her if I throw a tomato as it's likely to freeze mid-flight (it's fucking cold here right now!). It's too bad that the career requirements weren't met, as there are lots of decent jobs for just about anyone with a marketable skill here. I mean, I got a job and I'm semi-retarded!
