The subtitle to this thread is "THE A'S AND THE YANKESS CAN SUCK IT! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

(Isn't baseball wonderful?)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 7 October 2002 02:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel kind of bad about the Yankees losing, but I gues stheir pitching staff is kind of flaccid these dyas, and Scott Brocious is gone. SOmething about that crazy third baseman was magic. I have never liked Andy Petite. Of course the fuxors here didnt even shows the games on tv.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Monday, 7 October 2002 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

today the answer is actually yes dan

Josh (Josh), Monday, 7 October 2002 03:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Pettite's one of those big doe-eyed horsey guys they grow out in Texas who I usually cotton to in a second but a) he's a Yankee and b) after each game he turns into one of those big doe-eyed horsey Jesus-boys they grow out in Texas that brown-nose Christ whenever their Dad's around.

My only regret is that Alfonso Soriano's season is over. I think I have kind of have a thing for him. A month or so ago I lucked into day-game box seats at Yankee Stadium (it was just before the A's started winning, cause the Yanks thumped em). To see Alfonse timing pitches in the on-deck circle not 25 feet away was extraordinary, to put it mildly. He's like from another planet or something, sent here to play baseball.

a Midwest series would be c00l!!!!! I bet they get good ratings for it. It would be nice to put an end to the big-market/small market nonsense.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 7 October 2002 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

The A's are dopey as all that. They earned their losses - between starting Hudson twice in lieu of Mr. Zito (who started the meaningless last game o' the season), dopey errors @ innopportune times, not trying to advance Durham in the 8th inning today, unt Billy Koch pooping on the mound in the 9th.

I'm thinking 7 games. I'm thinking Ortiz and Appier will have the same problems Mr. Hudson had. I'm thinking the Angels will feast on any starter that's not Radke or Milton. I'm thinking the Twins will win because they'll have home field advantage (just as they did in '87 and '91, when they won their last 2 World Series). But if it comes down to Every Day Eddie Guardado closing out Game 7, I'd be very very wary of the Twins' chances of advancing.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 7 October 2002 03:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess I'll root for Minnesota, but since neither the Yankees nor the Phillies are in the playoffs I can't really say that I care.

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 7 October 2002 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

At least the RED SUX ain't in it, either!

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 7 October 2002 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Cards vs Twins = sweet revenge for 87.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 7 October 2002 03:53 (twenty-three years ago)

And imagine if we had to go through the Giants to get there again. Either that or revenge on the Braves for 98.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 7 October 2002 03:57 (twenty-three years ago)

if the cardinals had to go through the giants to get there, i think i'd be blown away by the historicness of the whole thing

boxcubed (boxcubed), Monday, 7 October 2002 04:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I am happy for the Twins but I must say, with the A's out of it, I like Anaheim's chances.

The Metrodome is supposed to be the biggest home field advantage of any park, but I think it will matter less against the Angels than against any other team. Although the Twins' defense is showy, the infield is not as tight as the diurnal Twins Gems would lead one to believe.

If and when any of the games get into the bullpens, the Twins will be chum in the water.

p.s. I made a professional sportwriter laugh on Saturday by calling Magglio Ordonez "toolsy." :)

felicity (felicity), Monday, 7 October 2002 04:28 (twenty-three years ago)

and yes, Soriano does seem to be from another planet. Where he left his glove.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 7 October 2002 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm laughing my ass off at "where he left his glove" :)

I'm digging this postseason a lot. None of my predictions are coming off, except that after Gonzalez was out I thought the Cardinals had a chance against Arizona -- but a sweep is a lot more than a chance. If Rolen can still play his best, I think we'll see them in the Series.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 7 October 2002 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm an A's fan, but I'm really really rooting for the Twins now.

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 7 October 2002 04:45 (twenty-three years ago)

does anyone remember why professional sports are good

boxcubed (boxcubed), Monday, 7 October 2002 05:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Because they can afford better cameramen than the amateurs.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 7 October 2002 05:42 (twenty-three years ago)

true dat

p.s. felicity 1) that's bernie's play 2) it's only his 2nd season ever playing 2nd base 3) eh no talkin bad bout "After You" Alfonse!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 7 October 2002 05:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Soriano and Posada should start their own team with other top AL smoothies

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:02 (twenty-three years ago)

with Johnny Damon in the outfield

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree that Soriano and Posada should come over to the Red Sox :)

Tep (north-of-Boston born and raised) (ktepi), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:06 (twenty-three years ago)

The Red Sox got the second basemen they deserve.

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:09 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Tracer, you mean the DP ball that rolled through Soriano's legs? No question he's a great player, but he's no Robbie Alomar at 2nd.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:16 (twenty-three years ago)

He's no Robbie Alomar at the plate either! (this year at least)

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:18 (twenty-three years ago)

But being a Red Sox fan means always hoping your team will get more than it deserves (or exactly what it deserves, if you believe in karma).

Ah well, being a Sox fan is fun. There aren't many other teams which consistently do excellently in the first half and just as consistently fall out after the All-Star break. It's not so much that we keep fooling ourselves into thinking they'll make it -- it's just that we spend the summer in suspense, wondering what will go wrong this time. It's like a really long episode of Three's Company (with Mr Furley played by Bill Buckner).

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:18 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, James, that's why I said he was a great player!

felicity (felicity), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:21 (twenty-three years ago)

but speaking of "Remember the" Alomar, did any of you notice how long he held on to the ball in the middle of the triple play he turned early in the season? He made it seem like seconds.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:24 (twenty-three years ago)

"Remember the" Alomar!

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 7 October 2002 06:31 (twenty-three years ago)

my goodness, the Angels are certainly looking like the team of destiny. How I love that filthy Francisco Rodriguez, vulturing another win.

Either way it'll be interesting. On the one hand, I'd love to see two wild cards meet in the World Series and for Bonds to get his shot at a ring, even though he seems like kind of a bad guy.

On the other hand, there would be a lot of drama with ex-Angels Chuck Finley and Jim Edmunds on St. Louis. Not to mention a lot of red.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 14 October 2002 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

:`(

Josh (Josh), Monday, 14 October 2002 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

A Cards-Angels series is not looking likely after tonight. The boys with birds on their chests had oh so many chances and just choked one after another. Oy, it made my tummy hurt.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 14 October 2002 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

josh, there's no crying in ba$eball!

felicity (felicity), Monday, 14 October 2002 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I spotted scioscia crying with joy last night so there must be some

Josh (Josh), Monday, 14 October 2002 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

josh, it warms my cockles to see you writing a sentence with the word "scioscia" in it.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 14 October 2002 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so very proud of you. :`)

felicity (felicity), Monday, 14 October 2002 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That must've been champagne in his eyes...

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

next I am working on spelling 'barry bonds' correctly

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

no wait that should read "'pierzynsky' and 'mientkiewicz'"

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

anyway shut up dude you'll blow my excuse

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

If there is any justice in the world, Lofton, Bonds, and Benitoad will get a four game beatdown courtesy of the Angels.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

benito will cut you face!

boxcubed (boxcubed), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I wuv all the baseball talk on ILE in October. Anyway, congrats to the Angels and the Giants. An all-Wild Card world series, good grief!

Jeff W, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Loma Prieta vs Northridge FITE!

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

So long as it happens up there, thanks.
