jaymc, Sunday, 9 February 2014 07:31 (eleven years ago)

voting dern now, before i notice someone who gives me pause

i want to say one word to you, just one word:buzzfeed (difficult listening hour), Sunday, 9 February 2014 07:33 (eleven years ago)

I hope someone votes for Quinn Cummings.

jaymc, Sunday, 9 February 2014 07:51 (eleven years ago)

Voted Meryl Streep, to piss off Alfred

, Sunday, 9 February 2014 07:53 (eleven years ago)

Dern or Blanchette probably.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 February 2014 08:03 (eleven years ago)

Although, Emily Watson in Hilary and Jackie is a force of nature.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 February 2014 08:05 (eleven years ago)

more pissed than ever jennifer jason leigh never got a nod

Laura Linney for You Can Count on Me and The Squid and the Whale. Surprised Holly Hunter isn't on the list, but she missed by three years. Bad time to vote for Mariel Hemingway.

clemenza, Sunday, 9 February 2014 13:06 (eleven years ago)

Binoche, with Helena B. Carter, Emily Watson, Naomi Watts and Toni Collette in contention.

disposable soma (Sanpaku), Sunday, 9 February 2014 15:25 (eleven years ago)

Cate Blanchett is usually a mannered bore.

Of film actors that are on the list or have been mentioned, Foster, JJ Leigh, Binoche.

rosie perez

Hungry4Ass, Sunday, 9 February 2014 15:39 (eleven years ago)

Lots of strong Aussies on this. Toni Colette always interesting.

One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Sunday, 9 February 2014 15:53 (eleven years ago)

Lots of good options, inclined to vote Dern.

Simon H., Sunday, 9 February 2014 15:55 (eleven years ago)

binoche, watson, watts are contenders. I think Amy Ryan's got the chops but she needs to find better roles than stuff like supporting roles in "escape plan". I love diane lane and rachel weisz, too.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Sunday, 9 February 2014 15:59 (eleven years ago)

Emily Mortimer ('71) should be in there too.

Simon H., Sunday, 9 February 2014 16:01 (eleven years ago)

diane lane's crazy underrated, she just never seems to get the good roles

kinda think watson's the best on this list but i already voted for rosie. tomei and watts would tempt me as well. i havent seen enough of viola davis but i understand she has a formidable reputation

Hungry4Ass, Sunday, 9 February 2014 16:02 (eleven years ago)

Binoche, Linney, Watts, Dern

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 9 February 2014 16:02 (eleven years ago)

Dern, but would strongly consider voting JJ Leigh were she on here.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Sunday, 9 February 2014 16:54 (eleven years ago)

Another Binoche vote from me.

Isaiah "Ice" McAdams (cajunsunday), Sunday, 9 February 2014 17:00 (eleven years ago)

after her English Patient-Chocolat flirtation with Hollywood stardom she's given several excellent perfs.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 9 February 2014 17:54 (eleven years ago)

toni collette probably. but maybe marisa tomei which at one point would have been laughable but I swear she's great in everything she's in.

I completely fail to see what people find appealing in Juliette Binoche.

Gonna go with Watts. It's between her and Colette for me. Though I love Dern and Linney as well.

daavid, Sunday, 9 February 2014 19:36 (eleven years ago)

man, Watts has had a terrible run of late. Hopefully the Herzog flick pans out.

Simon H., Sunday, 9 February 2014 19:39 (eleven years ago)

so much better than the actor list!

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Sunday, 9 February 2014 19:44 (eleven years ago)

Alfred, that's just a list of films. I have to admit I've only seen Blue... and I couldn't stand her in it, TBH. Regardless of the quality of the movies she's in, I find her face completely expressionless.

daavid, Sunday, 9 February 2014 19:50 (eleven years ago)

not the case in Certified Copy, or Haneke's Code Unknown

images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 9 February 2014 20:01 (eleven years ago)

you're judging her on one performance, daavid?

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 9 February 2014 20:17 (eleven years ago)

No, no. I've seen her in other films. I meant I've only seen one of the ones you mentioned. In any case, even if I ever saw a good performance, I gotta admit I simply do not like her and couldn't really judge objectively.

daavid, Sunday, 9 February 2014 20:28 (eleven years ago)

is no one going to rep for jodie foster? and why not?

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Sunday, 9 February 2014 20:41 (eleven years ago)

Because of Nell.

Oh yeah, that. Thankfully, I've never seen that movie. The trailers were bad enough.

Cameron Diaz

greatest actress of any in this -- or any other -- generation. astounding range of emotional performances.

can't remember anything about a beautiful mind except (a) there was a plot-swerve in the movie that really stunned me at the time; and (b) jennifer connelly was astoundingly good in her role.

Daniel, Esq 2, Sunday, 9 February 2014 21:16 (eleven years ago)

astounding range of emotional performances.

Heh. Yeah Diaz was the curveball. But I honestly think she has, and has shown, interesting potential (especially once she ages definitively beyond standard rom-com lead). The analogue would be McConaughey, who's bloomed into something I wouldn't have expected just a few years ago.

drash, Sunday, 9 February 2014 21:34 (eleven years ago)

I really loved Binoche in Flight of the Red Balloon. She does that harassed single mother thing well.

Isaiah "Ice" McAdams (cajunsunday), Sunday, 9 February 2014 21:59 (eleven years ago)

This is so Binoche.

"if Binoche is on there then Isabelle Huppert should be" i thought. But then I googled Huppert and she's 60, which is completely mind blowing to me.

i lost my shoes on acid (jed_), Thursday, 13 February 2014 00:12 (eleven years ago)

Huppert played Romy Schneider's kid sister in a movie in 1972!

I had a similar experience with Miranda Richardson.

three years pass...

Seethed with annoyance throughout Mary and Max and I rly couldn't put my finger on it, because it was beautiful and funny and poignant but every now and again i wanted to stab kittens

End credits solved it

Has Toni Colette ever been anything but pure, condensed and shockingly irritaating
