How dare you tarnish the reputation of Turturro's yodel (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 16:32 (eleven years ago)

Was gonna say I'm sticking with Bernie, which is the most perfect movie of the ones I've seen, but Eastbound throws a spanner in the works.

Is the Paperboy good? Watched the same director's The Butler the other night and thought it was rotten.

it's a one note part, but he is ridiculously funny in E&D

I loved The Paperboy, but I loved The Butler as well, I don't know if I would recommend the former if you hated the latter

Oh man I may have to vote eastbound

The Edge - why is he so bald and hatted? (wins), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 16:42 (eleven years ago)

Well I'll go ahead and vote Bernie then. Fair trade.

"Ladies of Tampa" and the house rules, for the win.

Was there a reason Dallas Buyer's Club was dropped from the old version? Haven't seen it, so I won't vote for it, but seems pretty key to The McConaughssance.

How dare you tarnish the reputation of Turturro's yodel (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:19 (eleven years ago)

Killer Joe.

Simon H., Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:20 (eleven years ago)

He's the only noteworthy thing about DBC (and I don't hate it as much as the ragin' gay regiment); frankly none of these good to great performances have come in any films that have been earthshakers.

images of war violence and historical smoking (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:21 (eleven years ago)

you didn't like Leto? I agree that none of these are earthshakers, but he consistently does a great job with the material. I think Mud is the best all around film on the list, that's why it's getting my vote.

How dare you tarnish the reputation of Turturro's yodel (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:23 (eleven years ago)

Was The Lincoln Lawyer actually worthy anything? I figured there was no need to see this if you'd already watched A Time to Kill.

Leto is predictable. The movie is disease-of-the-week mush.

The Lincoln Lawyer is standard lawyer movie but he's glamorous and sharp.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:27 (eleven years ago)

A Time to Kill is offensive and TLL not, so the latter wins.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:28 (eleven years ago)

Haha, fair enough. Wasn't meant to imply ATtK was worth a shit, just that the trailers for TLL reminded me enough of ATtK to skip it.

Leto's performance, per eD G of Slant, is a stunt.

its just a chill-ass meat and potatoes legal thriller with a good cast, one of those things you'd watch whenever you came across it on cable, i dug it

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:57 (eleven years ago)

my favorite thing about Killer Joe was the totally wtf ending

xp

How dare you tarnish the reputation of Turturro's yodel (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:57 (eleven years ago)

voting for Killer Joe, best perf is dallas buyers and i prob would've voted for that

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:58 (eleven years ago)

He's great in True Detective except for how he takes drags on a cig, so I'll go with Killer Joe.

Taking Devil's Tower (by mashed potatoes) (WilliamC), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:00 (eleven years ago)

leto is barely good in that movie and his plot feels half-imported from some other movie.

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:02 (eleven years ago)

I wouldn't even call it a plot

How dare you tarnish the reputation of Turturro's yodel (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:06 (eleven years ago)

I read the title as McConaughsauce, which I would put on everything.

probably has pubes and cig butts.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:16 (eleven years ago)

Kudos for the DCB snub.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:16 (eleven years ago)

magic mike all the way. that scene with him and pettyfer in front of the mirror. and although he is outshined by his paperboy costars I was a lot more shocked by what happened to him in that movie and what his body undergoes in all of DBC.

danzig, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:26 (eleven years ago)

killer joe. none of these films have been a-mazing, but theyve all been more interesting than the average mainstream hollywood movie, and hes prob the most interesting american actor with that kind of profile. even in average films (eg lincoln lawyer) theres something really enjoyable about his performances, and how natural he seems. can only be a matter of time until he lands a film that deserves him. hes a totally diff actor to nic cage, but i will watch pretty much anything theyre in.

Magic Mike was all-time movie star shit. Carried the movie.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 6 March 2014 00:04 (eleven years ago)

true detective all the way. as good as everyone else is in that show, you can't take your eyes off him at all. he's just, um ok this sounds cheesy, but he's 'electric' in this understated way where even just the way his character stares is creepy/exciting.

i have liked him in a lot of his recent movies though. mud was great. he was the only thing I liked in Paperboy, which isn't saying much.

I am realizing at this point in my life that I really, really do dig McConaughey way more than I used to

I only watch films, claiming Killer Joe ftw.

ewar woowar (or something), Friday, 7 March 2014 00:36 (eleven years ago)

I only just watched Dallas Buyers Club last night --- McConaughey's was def a great performance (and seriously had me wondering if he required medical assistance on set, I meant that was Christian Bale levels of emaciation going on there, jesus) but I still think there's something different/better/unique going on with what he's doing in True Detective, maybe that's just because of the overall strangeness of the tv show itself, but still. The makeup is the key to those 3 diff timelines but the way he nails the behaviour/demeanour for each of them to make them so distinct never stops impressing me.

tl; dr...I feel good abt my vote

For a second then I thought people knew that Mud and Magic Mike >>> than everything else (._.)

xelab, Friday, 7 March 2014 00:47 (eleven years ago)

Lincoln Lawyer was dope, feel like it got slept on because it was right at the beginning of that transition (wow, haha, the last movie before that was Ghosts of Girlfriends Past). True Detective is the clear winner though.

Yes, I get the sense that LL will be a Saturday afternoon cable movie for me, i.e. a flick I'll watch for a few minutes b/w errands.
