So I guess we're voting for, "Which would you most prefer to be accompanied by?"

Smith. I'd even pick Colin Cowherd over Bayless.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 11 March 2014 05:53 (twelve years ago)

Stephen A has entertained me on a few occasions, Skip hasn't. Skip just seems like a weasel.

Spottie, Tuesday, 11 March 2014 06:19 (twelve years ago)

Isn't Skip playing the role of insufferable jerk in this pair to make Stephen A. look like a completely reasonable dude?

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 March 2014 08:23 (twelve years ago)

Bayless has been an insufferable jerk for 30 years.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 11 March 2014 14:01 (twelve years ago)

They are both awful, but i'll pick Bayless in the off chance i can get a meal from his brother.

reggie (qualmsley), Thursday, 13 March 2014 17:11 (twelve years ago)

I think skip and rick bayless are estranged. afaik skip has nothing to do with any of his family and lives a weirdly single minded unforgiving ascetic lifestyle, like a monk crossed with pardon the interruption.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Thursday, 13 March 2014 17:14 (twelve years ago)

unlike skip you actually get the feeling that stephen a actually believes the things that come out of his mouth, though he's every bit as dumb as skip so this is tough

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 March 2014 17:20 (twelve years ago)

my mind is blown over skip and rick being brothers

POO: the blossom or full flower of the evening (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 13 March 2014 17:40 (twelve years ago)

I've read Rick Bayless interviews talking about skip and he has nothing bad nor good to say, he just acknowledges that he has a brother named skip who writes about sports and how he himself has zero interest in sports.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Thursday, 13 March 2014 17:44 (twelve years ago)

If my brother were Skip Bayless, I too would have zero interest in sports.

This is totally true but it may actually make SAS worse.

Holy fuck Skip Bayless is 62?

I mean yeah but I've always assumed there are kinds of wisdom that you can't avoid that come with being alive for 60 plus years.

tsrobodo, Monday, 24 March 2014 13:46 (twelve years ago)

lol, nope.

https://nypost.com/2026/02/13/sports/espns-stephen-a-smith-giving-strong-consideration-to-2028-presidential-run/

In a 1-on-1 interview with Robert Costa, a national correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning” and the chief Washington analyst for CBS News, Smith expressed his desire to move into politics and make a serious attempt at a 2028 presidential run.

Smith told Costa, “I will confess to you, I’m giving strong consideration to being on that debate stage for 2027” and running for the Democratic nomination. “I’ve got this year coming up 2026, to think about it, to study, to know the issues.”

omar little, Saturday, 14 February 2026 20:01 (two months ago)

im giving strong consideration that stephen a smith is a cia psyop

alanis morrishark - jagged little krill (1995) (m bison), Saturday, 14 February 2026 20:21 (two months ago)

The downside is you have Stephan A. Smith as President. The plus side is he's no longer involved in sports. This is a tough one.

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Saturday, 14 February 2026 21:11 (two months ago)

lmao how is this thread revive the way I find out that Skip and Rick Bayless are brothers?

mh, Monday, 16 February 2026 21:58 (two months ago)

m bison otm though, SAS is kind of like a dumb sports guy's idea of a smart guy

mh, Monday, 16 February 2026 22:02 (two months ago)

he's definitely gotten worse with time and turned into more of a chariacature

SAS is kind of like a dumb sports guy's idea of a smart guy

not sure if this is true? he knows nothing about anything besides the NBA and maybe the NFL. i'll let other people speak to the hoops, but i guarantee the random fantasy football player/bettor knows more about football than SAS. his allure, such as it is, is not about being 'smart' or even correct, it's about being aggressively opinionated about literally everything. i have a hard time believing that anyone actually credits his proclamations as meaningful

i'll still take him over kornheiser, tho. what a useless unfunny prick that guy was

mookieproof, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 00:53 (two months ago)

ya I don't know if anyone actually respects the guy's sports opinions, he's widely known for being a giant doofus, he makes for good TV though

frogbs, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 00:58 (two months ago)

Stealing Tony Kornheiser valor.

Lady Sovereign (Citizen) (milo z), Tuesday, 17 February 2026 01:16 (two months ago)

tbf there's essentially nothing as bad as wilbon opining on ovechkin (and inevitably comparing him, disparagingly, to jordan, about whom wilbon wrote a book)

i don't even like ovechkin but what a clueless hack

mookieproof, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 01:34 (two months ago)

my read is that sas came from the newspaper world where having a big personality doesnt matter that much but once he got to tv, he found his voice in the character of screamin a. and now he has become his character and cant quit because hes making too much money and espn wants him to be this guy for several hours a day every day, hes like slurms mackenzie the party worm and this will kill him.

alanis morrishark - jagged little krill (1995) (m bison), Tuesday, 17 February 2026 01:42 (two months ago)

yeah when i load the espn app the lead stories are always SAS and/or McAfee think *this*! the athletic certainly has its issues, but at least they don't include that

idgi but tbf i am v. old and was amazed that people were interested in videos of the ball siblings' trials and tribulations several years ago

mookieproof, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 01:50 (two months ago)

definitely not knowledgeable and he's lazy about actually knowing about sports. you said it better with aggressively opinionated about literally everything, but that describes large portion of streamers that people think are poignant, though. just speaking extemporaneously, regardless of how dumb what you're saying is

mh, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 14:50 (two months ago)

As J.B. would say Stephen A is like a dull knife that just ain't cuttin'...just talkin' a lot and sayin' nothing

nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 15:14 (two months ago)

*"loud" not "a lot" but definitely that as well.

nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 15:20 (two months ago)

sas has been floating this for awhile.. “studying the issues” is so funny.. someone is clearly in his ear saying this is viable, and maybe it is? but idk
