Aged 85, from "an unspecified illness". I couldn't see any threads dedicated to her, so thought this could be one for her work as well as to mark her passing.

Like most people over here, I know Daisies/Sedmikrásky the best. It is truly a great work of art, almost certainly the best of the Czech New Wave. Though in recent years I have grown increasingly irritable with people who don't realise/don't want to realise that its superficial absurdist joy masks deeper messages.

I also saw Traps/Pasti Pasti Pasticky, probably at about the time of its release. It's a much less formalist proposition, but for what essentially amounts to a rape-revenge film, I remember it being pretty damn good.

aw man aw man!

i saw 'daisies' on the big screen a couple weeks ago, seems more glorious than ever. i doubt i'll ever figure out what half of it 'means' in any literal sense, but such a great, fun, bracing, life-affirming experience.

saw 'fruit of paradise' several years ago and remember liking it a lot. she had an incredible visual sense -- not quite like any other filmmaker i can think of.

"This film is dedicated to those who get upset only over a stomped-upon bed of lettuce."

RIP. There is an interesting video interview with her on the Second Run Region 2 DVD of Daisies (which is def. one of the great food movies)
