feel like it's no longer enough for something to become square. it becomes square and then it still doesn't go away. upsets the natural order of things imo

IMO this is one of the distinctive agonies of modern life life tbh, & will soon become unbearable, unless the entire relation to culture & the way that things become "passé" were to somehow change.
― bernard snowy, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 19:39 (ten years ago)
wtf is a fleek?
― I checked Snoops , and it is for real (Trayce), Thursday, 5 March 2015 02:36 (ten years ago)
The first time I saw the word 'fleek' was in a piece about how 'fleek' was dead

It sounds like a word for when you have a bit of spit stuck to the side of your face.

Can someone explain the Harambe/"dicks out for harambe" thing? I am aware of the dead gorilla. Beyond that, I haven't been able to make any sense of it whenever I've seen the meme deployed this summer.
― how's life, Thursday, 1 September 2016 19:12 (nine years ago)
i've read it as a sardonic response to the initial outpouring of sympathy for H
― pinkhushpuppies (rip van wanko), Thursday, 1 September 2016 19:20 (nine years ago)
Yeah, I sort of understand that - if I recall correctly, something about making fun of giving so much sympathy to a dead animal when black people are being shot by police in the street. But then it feels like there are maybe multiple layers of toxic irony associated with it as well maybe? Like making fun of those people who made fun of the people who were sympathetic to the gorilla? Or maybe earnest reaction to the sardonic people like "no seriously, it's okay to mourn dead animals too"? Or maybe disearnest celebration of dead animal by attention-seeking assholes?
Basically I feel like every time I see it dropped, I want to punch somebody but I don't know who to punch!
