no it's called 'paint nite' - and it's at a CHEVY'S, of all places. idk i got a deal, $37.50 for two of us, we get to paint with an instructor for two hours, and neither me or ytth have any drawing ability so it'll be pretty hilarious at the very least.

i had to do a writeup on these for a local mag
the ones round here looked like a kind of paint by numbers deal with dranks
not my thing but kinda fun

how it looks to me -> combine your drinking problem with a high status leisure activity.

the wine, if you're partial, would help remove some of the self-consciousness adults have with art/painting
loosens things up, helps ppl laugh a bit more, i totally get it
hardest part of teaching art to adults is getting them to freakin ~relax~ lol

One of these joints around the block from us. I always walk by and make fun of them. I guess I'm an awful person. But at least I'm not sipping and painting.

so this is my version

the actual painting was super fun, i really enjoyed it, and it was an easy subject to paint reasonably well, even with no artistic talent.
but the "teacher" was clearly someone who wasn't an actual artist and had just done some kind of training course with Paint Nite, which was probably like attending 15 Paint Nites. her's looked nothing like the image i posted above (honest to god, mine actually looked better than hers, that's how bad she was), and her business card said "artist & licensee) so i'm guessing it's like a franchise type of thing, or like avon or something.
the teacher also talked too much and tried to encourage this party atmosphere with loud terrible top 40 music. and the class was too slow - i was finished in like an hour bc i just stopped listening to her useless step-by-step instructions, and then i got bored and started ruining my painting by adding stuff.

I've thought about going to one of these but just painting what I want. Like the devil over and over. And then on everyone else's canvas too. The devil everywhere.

we have one of these. if they teach you how to paint the covers of your favorite Tom Petty albums, i can see the appeal.

xp you can totally paint whatever you want - you def don't have to actually paint the subject. ytth painted an evil smileyface on the front of his house with BORN 2 DIE!! painted on the roof. i would post a pic but i should probably check with him first.
the normal prices really are too fucking expensive tho - $45 each, but i got a good deal at $37.50 for 2 of us. don't think i'd do it again at full price, but i went through delightful, which is this date-ideas site, and their price is $52 for two tickets (got an extra 25% disc).

Some of my friends took me to one of these places for my last birthday, cause they found a Groupon which made the price around $25 per person, pretty reasonable. There was no structure involved, just painting whatever the hell you wanted to. They had some supervisors who could suggest techniques and stuff but they stayed out of the way unless you asked for their help (which I don't think any of us did). We all had a great time, but I can see that with a class and structure this could be tedious
