I don't understand how the web works as a business, but I can't see how no one else would be interested in buying TWP after NBCU decided to put it on the market. Daily Candy, sure, wgaf...but TWP is a treasure.

Chelsea were interested at one point.

It looks like they're going to preserve the archives, but take them offline so no one can read them. I imagine that's in anticipation of a sale at some time in the future, but in the meantime it super sucks.

I HATE THE TWOP FORUMS

curmudgeon, Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:15 (eleven years ago)

I stopped reading TWOP when they started recapping stuff like The Wire, around the time Bravo bought them or whatever? They started to recap shows that imo did not fit their site voice.

I loved their recaps back in the day. Lost, Gilmore Girls, Project Runway... they were great!

I bought a tshirt from their Now or Never stash once, an x-files riff "intergovernment baseball league"
it was boss

when i was re-watching veronica mars over the last month, i ended up going back and reading some of the TWOP recaps/forum threads for certain episodes. since (most) threads never close, i was able to see the immediate 2006-era responses to episodes right after they aired, and then the gradual refining of opinion in the same thread as months/years passed and later visitors posted with the benefit of hindsight. it was really cool and i appreciated that it was still all there to read. i really hope they can manage something so all that content is saved/persists elsewhere.

xxp ha, i think i ended up buying one of those shirts for my sister, only it was for a 24-styled team called the "cougars."

whoever it was that wrote their Friday Night Lights recaps did an awesome job

it was sad when they diluted their voice, some of those writers were great

They were the first to do "Two Stars, One Role" I think? Or whatever that was called. I loved Sarah Bunting who did Tomato Nation for years after.

I think that was a predecessor to TWOP that got folded in? It was better - Two Stars, One Role; "Hey It's That Guy" etc.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:03 (eleven years ago)

I can't remember but they used to be called something else, didn't they? And then had to change it bc of a copyright violation or some legal wrangle.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:11 (eleven years ago)

Oh right they started with Dawson's Wrap and then were Mighty Big TV, that's the version I read.

Found it, I was thinking of fametracker.com

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:17 (eleven years ago)

yeah fametracker was very early and one of the first sites i checked regularly to fold though i don't think it was nasdaq crash related, i think they just shifted their focus. it's folding didn't hit nearly as hard as feed or esp suck folding (i still miss suck) but it was a fun site. i didn't check out twop too much after they switched from mightybigtv, i didn't watch tv nearly as much and i had irl friends to make fun of dawson's creek or whatever with. plus they never really engaged much w/ the Golden Age of Television, i remember the wire had some sad little thread in the 'other tv dramas' section. i remember the first time i checked out sepinwall was cuz someone mentioned there was a guy on the internet who was actually writing about every episode of the wire (i think it was someone here tbh). crazy to think that there were just a few sites i would/could check daily (actually i can name them - suck, feed, aldaily, salon, slate) and then everything else i would check in every couple of weeks or so.

I'm never going to let go of my animus, so I'll chime in to say their early recaps for The Wire are delightfully embarrassing.

aaron sorkin triumphant

balls, Friday, 28 March 2014 00:25 (eleven years ago)

I think I only posted to the boards when it was still Dawson's Wrap. I was a regular on Fametracker and Hissyfit though.
