i have furry eyebrows. i can raise them one at a time. This is because i'm a spaniard.

i hope when i'm old i'll have devilish, startling shocks of white above my eyes that I'll have to brush with a bone comb.

so where are your favorite eyebrows at the moment?

gabriel rodriguez-doerr (gabe), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 09:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey I can do that too! This is because I'm Vulcan. I like David Hemmings' ones these days. Is that his name? The guy from Blow Out?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 09:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Looks like everyone in this room has been at the tweezers then. I'm trying to think of something mildly surprising to do so that I can check out their eyebrow raising abilities.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I like straight eyebrows.

toraneko (toraneko), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Mine have a dent in them.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I have pretty thick eyebrows I guess ( well enough to get hassled about in high school) but I can't lift them up one at a time! I want to. At least I can move my eyes differently, that impresses the fuck out of everyone.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually it makes me feel a bit sick, Elisabeth.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Severely plucked eyebrows make me feel a bit sick. You know, that kind of really thin half moon look that seems to have taken over in some quarters. I mean I'm no Brooke Shields fan, but girls - there are limits.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

And guys! I've seen some absolutely terrible pluck jobs on guys around uni. Yech.

I have pretty huge eyebrows. My girlfriend laughs at them from time to time. At least it's not a single eyebrow.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:44 (twenty-three years ago)

It makes you feel sick when my eyes start moving funny without me realising I know. Oh well! I sound funny.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I wasn't too serious E. Plucked GUYS' eyebrows? That's just INSANE.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Neither was I man! It is weird when they move by themselves though... But yeah plucked guys eyebrows, crazy.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 10:55 (twenty-three years ago)

you come to realise eyebrows are really really weird if you look at them too long, and then you can't stop noticing them.

bob zemko (bob), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 11:44 (twenty-three years ago)

One of my mates had a legendary monobrow until his girlfriend removed it (not the whole thing obv) using cunning subterfuge, she would pluck a few hairs out each night when he was asleep (god knows how this didn't wake him up) until it was all such a straggly mess he had to take proper action himself when conscious and pluck a little gap between the brows.

Emma, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 11:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I ask you this: who the hell wouldn't want to get rid of a monobrow? If I didn't carefully maintain my eyebrow situation I'd be verging on the dreaded singularity.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

He was clinging to it as a relic of his bachelor days.

Emma, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

i used to try to take 'em out when i was younger becuz i used to find 'em uncomfortable.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh a monobrow deserves upkeep/plucking, yeah. I just shave mine though. I managed to cut myself the other day.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

blow-out=travolta

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to work at a hairdressers/beautician place and there were quite a few guys that got their eyebrows done. (Not necessarily gay guys either.)

toraneko (toraneko), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I love eyebrows. I don't know why some women insist on trimming them so severely. I remember once saying to my dance teacher, "Your eyebrows look more three-dimensional today," to which she responded something like, "Yeah, I need to trim them." I tried to convince her to let them grow. Eyebrows can really set off a person's eyes quite nicely. They are underappreciated.

The person I am currently dating has eyebrows that arch up at an unusual angle. I think there is some artifice involved but when I asked her to tell me about it, she was very reluctant to explain. (Maybe I shouldn't have said that I thought they looked "interesting.")

I am a man and I trim my eyebrows. I don't want to look like Andy Rooney (sp?) or Czeslaw Milosz.

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have the somewhat annoying situation of a few noticeable hairs in between my eyebrows, enough to warrant shaving or something every so often. Bah, genetics.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 20:30 (twenty-three years ago)

i can move mine separately too, and pluck them a bit to keep them 'tidy'.
when im old i want to shave them off completely, and paint them on really badly with thick black eyebrow pencil. i will wear bright blue eyeshadow and fluorescent pink lipstick on my ( by then ) thin lips, dye my hair an outrageously unsuitable dark colour and wear long dresses with gaudy designs and fake leopard skin coats.

donna (donna), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

i already do all those

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 22:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I pluck in between my brows. Not that I have a Gallagher monobrow but I've gotta have something to obsess about.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah "blow UP", damn

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

After reading RickyT's response on the air rifle thread, everything now sounds like a Fall song.

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I like dog and cat whisker-brows. What are those for??

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I like thick eyebrows but I pluck mine in the middle a little (I am the only one of my friends who thinks that plucking feels cool rather than hurts, so la). I wish I could raise one at a time though, I've been failing for YEARS.

Maria (Maria), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I have GREAT eyebrows--probably my best feature. My right brow is curved and the left is arched, so they work perfectly off one another. Plus I can wiggle them individually! See?

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I kind of like it when people have really evil eyebrows that arch like this:

^^

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Klaus Nomi to thread! Er, if he was alive.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Go monobrow!

Mandee, Wednesday, 9 October 2002 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

okay I looked in the mirror so I could describe my eyebrows correctly and I have come to the conclusion that i have the most beautiful eyebrows in the universe. I'm almost jealous of myself they're so good.

rainy (rainy), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

nick n HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHA yeah it does-ah

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate you rainy.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Rainy, I used to feel the same way about my eyebrows - they are what got me through teenagerhood. Then they went feral but luckily I was strong enough by then to cope with their behaviour.

toraneko (toraneko), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Rainy v. Toraneko's eyebrows FITE. Having seen both, I think them equally mighty attractive.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not much into eyebrow tweezing. Some girls go way too far and end up just having two little lines up there. It's like trying to look like an old lady who's lost her eyebrows and draws them on.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick, don't hate me because I'm beautiful

rainy (rainy), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I cannot help it. In you I see all my dreams made flesh and laughing ha ha ha like an evil dwarf.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

AS much as I love you Rainy, I refuse to believe your eyebrows are as pretty as Lixi's.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Creep.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

She has pretty eyebrows!

Graham (graham), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Your phrasing was obsequious.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Ned how are my eyebrows? I have never received a single comment on them, I'm guessing they're not too amazing.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Well la-di-dah.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

my eyebrows are quite nice! I've never had to pluck them, and although there is becoming more of them, with the occasional longer, strange coloured one, they're still pretty sound. I like parts of my body where I don't have to worry about the hair situation one way or another, sigh.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 10 October 2002 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I second Nick with the creep thing? My eyebrows are average.

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 October 2002 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The only appearance-based compliment I remember from the murk of pre-varsity was something to do with my possession of sexy eyebrows. Looking at them now . . . I don't see it. I've got a small scar though, & everybody knows CHIX DIG SCARS etc.

Sinister eyebrows are almost as important as a twirlable mustache.

Ess Kay (esskay), Thursday, 10 October 2002 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

who like my animated gif?????

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 10 October 2002 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know - it doesn't work.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 10 October 2002 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's shit. How's Glasgow N?

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 October 2002 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"Sinister eyebrows are almost as important as a twirlable mustache."

Ess Kay- lets be scoundrels together!

Revive!

(I was going to start a similar thread, but then I thought I'd better check, AND I discovered I'd already posted to it. Damn.)

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 13 July 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I have fabulous eyebrows - and I pluck the fuck out of them to keep them that way. I ain't Brooke Shields, baby.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 13 July 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Naturally good well-defined brows. I work out to keep 'em that way by continually being surprised (they are however not as good as the good long eyelashes my gf covets, saying it's not fair cos I'm boy and not arsed).

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 13 July 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Since last October my strange lighter-coloured hairs are getting longer and more abundant. How can medical science not yet have found a way to keep the hair growing where it's supposed to and not EVERYWHERE else??

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 13 July 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark, why not draw a face on your face, but all moved down a bit?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 13 July 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I just let the beauty salon I frequent (really a beauty college) take care of my eyebrows. On occasion I will tweeze the little hairs in the middle so that I won't have a huge problem with them, but aside from that I'll just go to the salon whenever I need to have my hair trimmed so I can get everything -- a shampoo and trim and an eyebrow shaping -- for around $12, including tips. I like the feeling of the hot wax going onto my 'brows and have become accustomed to the feeling of the wax being pulled off. I feel that tweezers hurt like a mofo, though.

Oh yes, and they'll trim my 'brows for me, too. After I come out of the place, I feel as though I have the most beautiful set of eyebrows. I will stare at them and stare at them. And then the 'brows grow (and grow wild) and then hurrah, it's time for another visit!

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 13 July 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

thick eyebrows on men are k-rowr for me...probably the one physical attribute that will overrule any other shortcoming, physical or otherwise. I reallllly enjoy plucking my own eyebrows.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 13 July 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

eyebrow is probly the body part i am complimented on most

minna (minna), Sunday, 13 July 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

My eyebrows are okay. Maybe too thin, like the look N. has described.

Mandee, Sunday, 13 July 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Mandee, your eyebrows are classy. I was talking about like, 2mm thin.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 13 July 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never really thought about my eyebrows.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 13 July 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

My eyebrows are horrible cro-magnon things that seem to think it is their manifest destiny to conquer the territory that is the entire rest of my face, especially in the direction of each other. If my wife didn't have such a love for plucking I'm sure I wouldn't be able to refer to them in the plural.
On the other hand, I have magnificent control over the eyebrows. I thought everyone could raise them individually, but I can alternate their individual raising quickly so that it appears as though some small furry creature is crawling about above my eyes. I can also perform expressions that people aren't supposed to be able to voluntarily do (like the Woody Allen "I'm lost and miserable" face).

Dan I., Sunday, 13 July 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Classy! Okay, I feel good about them now.

Mandee (keckles), Sunday, 13 July 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Like my relation to Matt Groening, my unibrow travail is well-documented.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 14 July 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, with appropriate practice, I am as deft with raising the (People's) Eyebrow as The Rock himself.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 14 July 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i have great eyebrows. they are perfectly sized and require no plucking. that said, a lot of people pluck their eyebrows unnecessarily. plucking should only be used if you have a monobrow. COLOSSAL DUD: people who pluck their eyebrows right off and then draw them back on.

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 14 July 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Lara (Lara), Monday, 14 July 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I never think about my eyebrows but I went thru a weird stage where i used to pluck them down to a stump..it was very odd. and yeah I like the feel of plucking.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

dan, lets start a club.
i hate my eyebrows. i think they look terrible on my head. obv not enough to do anything about it, nor do i have the time (my god it would take weeks).

i dyed my hair blonde a few times in high school and i have to wonder what i was thinking. my brows don't even look real in the year book pics – it looks asif some vindictive student on the yearbook committee went to town with photoshop; or just used a giant black marker on the photo itself.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

eight months pass...
i had electrolysis between my eyebrows after 2 years of plucking. i stopped the electrolysis before 1 year of treatment because i couldn't stand the impression i was destroying my own eyebrows. the treated hairs are growing back, most of them much thiner. and my problem is that i want to get back about 0.5 cm of black hairs at the margins of my eyebrows (to the nose). what do you thinks is the best solution to do that? i have really bad depressions because of this. any advice is welcomed. jid (i am 22 and i am a guy, not gay)

jid, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

AARRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!

Why revive this thread? I hate eyebrows. You *KNOW* how I hate eyebrows. You know how much I've discussed the evil/non-evil eyebrow continuum.

The River Kate (kate), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

why it's almost as if the board operates independently of your own interests!

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know you hate eyebrows. The Busted thing is even more of a mystery.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I was trying to search for my evil eyebrow explanation on another thread, and this thread came up. Oh dear lord...

Not *all* of Busted have evil eyebrows, Barry. Just though I needed to clear that up before moving along. In fact, that's the other reason that James is the hottest, cause he is the only one that has normal, good, pure, (nice, faint, blond, blue-eyed Saxon) eyebrows.

Psycho Kate (kate), Saturday, 27 March 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Guys should never ever pluck eyebrows. Why do so many guys have Elizabeth Taylor eyebrows now? I used to think they must be cross dressers on their off hours, but there's just too many of them for that. It looks horrible.

Skottie, Saturday, 27 March 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Our Prime Minister John Howard is famous for his amazing eyebrows. They look like two caterpillars trying to mate on his forhead.

Ellen Lane (Ellen Lane), Saturday, 27 March 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

eleven months pass...
I just had my eyebrows threaded! It was a free thing at the university for International Women's Day (you could also get henna tattoos, massages and pension advice). It seems to have worked rather well and did not sting too badly, although my neck is kind of sore from the leaning back. Apparently my brow area is glowy pink, but hopefully this will die down before I face the public on the way home in half an hour.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

Not to derail anything but seriously

Eyebrow threading
Henna tattoos
Massages
PENSION ADVICE

What an interesting event!

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

madchen, was the experience better or worse than waxing?

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

I've never had mine waxed because my friend got it done and they ripped away huge chunks of skin and she had to wear specs for a week to hide the scabs. So yes, it is better, definitely. It was weird - you could hear twanging, like an elastic band guitar.

Ally, it gets better: free breast cancer post-its and fruit!

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

My mother told me never to pluck my eyebrows ("because then you'll have to do it FOREVER"), and only lately am I beginning to question the wisdom of that advice. They are really pale eyebrows but I think I'd look more groomed or polished or something if they were shaped.

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

I've never lost skin during a waxing. just momentary pain and its all good!

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

Um, what is eyebrow threading? I have never done anything to mine and they are rubbish but I feel that life is too short.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

i have pale, thin eyebrows, but they do look a bit better with plucking. i like having them a bit shaped.

isn't eyebrow threading another way of hair removal, something involving string getting twisted around the undesired hair somehow and then ripping out the hair quickly? it sounds intriguing...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

My eyebrows have become huge over the past few months, mostly because I don't have the time or patience to pluck them. I look like a monster.

suspect this is why the star trek costume/makeup design ppl were so shameless about going back to the weird-forehead well over and over, someone one day was just like, hey man… did you ever… just… look… at people's eyebrows

humans are gross and unsettling, they have fur-strips above their eyeholes
