I've started watching Knife Fight from the lolEsquire Channel and it's amazing - the Top Chef contestant everyone hated (Ilan) runs UNDERGROUND chef battles in his restaurant in downtown LA.
There's a HYPE MAN. and ELIJAH WOOD as judge.
Despite that... it's kind of not bad? Maybe not peak Top Chef good but better than any of the Food Network contest shows?
other things I've been watching:The Mind of a Chef - David Chang travels around the world in the first season, just kind of meh; second season has Sean Brock and April Bloomfield and they're much more interesting without Chang's bad boy posing.PBS show about a husband and wife opening a restaurant in east Carolina, moving back home from NY - it's kind of shameless how much they admit that it's family money paying for things and how little the chef/wife respect the locals.classic Julia Child shows - she was awesome, I grew up with Yan Can Cook and the Cajun guy on PBS so I guess I just barely missed herAmerica's Test Kitchen - I'm growing to hate the host/Cook's Illustrated publisher.

oh man i wanted somewhere to talk about cutthroat kitchen, the hilarious logical endpoint of chopped-style competitions

Chopped and Cutthroat Kitchen make it more difficult to enjoy Alton Brown, tbh. Good Eats was awesome but he seems overly willing to indulge every terrible Food Network idea they toss out.

I've been digging Gianni's North Beach on YouTube: http://www.gianni.tv - old-style Italian cooking hosted by a crusty Jersey dude who retired to SF. Low production values and it's filmed in his kitchen, but I end up learning a lot.

It's ridiculous in a delightful way and could be cross-posted to ROLLING HIPSTER STUDIES. So many newsboy caps and so much high-maintenance facial hair in the audience.

Watched all the Real Worlds from Hawaii to New Orleans, four episodes of the latest SF. I may have a large MTV blind spot.
