I used to have a hamster called Thurston. His resemblence to Mr Moore was striking. Have you ever named a pet after a popstar?

Nope. Unless you count the black fish named Darth Vader.

When my cat had kittens I named one of them Jarvis Bunny Boy. It got sold though.

My spacehopper is called Sledge. I supose you could say it was after Sister Sledge, but to be honest, the true origins are a mystery. History counts for naught, anyway! Make it up as you go along. Revolution!

Sarah, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

None. However, there is a dog named after a Nero Wolfe character and a cat named after a bad mystery writer.

My two Bassets Artesien Normandie (Hushspuppies for you felws) are Basil and Lucy. Basil in tribute to Fawlty Towers and Lucy in tribute to Lucille Ball.

In the heights of my music nerddom in high scool I named my two cats Sanctus and Benedictus. My mother refused to call them by these names and referred to them as BC (for Baby Cat) and Benny. I still I think I was right on the first one, but her name for the second one was much less embarrassing.

My brother had two goldfish named Simon and Garfunkel. Simon got flushed down the toilet after a few days, and Garfunkel hung on for a good six months before succumbing to...whatever it is that goldfish always die from.

Kerry, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I guess no points are awarded for saying that's exactly what should be done with Simon and Garfunkle.

Does having a cat named Mr. Kitty after the South Park character count?

Ally, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had a cat named Overend, after Overend Watts from Mott the Hoople.

Arthur, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No pets. My computer's hard disks are each named after 70s rock behemoths: My Powerbook G4 is called REO Speedwagon, my two old ones are named Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Lake Palmer, and my two Psion organisers are called Crosby and Nash. I've got to buy a new one because I need to call something Grand Funk Railroad. (none of which I've heard a record by I hasten to add)

What are you lot staring at? It's better than "Macintosh HD".

Graham, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm not staring at you, Graham, I'm just wondering if a sharp blow to the head will bring you to your senses.

Overend? Another reason to like you, Arthur. Name another pet Ariel sometime. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There's always Matthias Jabs from The Scorpions....

Andrew L, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

One of my cats is named Chuck Chillout, as name-checked on Schoolly D's 'Saturday Night' album, he's supposed to have been a big NY hiphop DJ back in the day.

Omar, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's one talented and long-lived cat.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not me but an ex of mine had a fish called Morrissey. Heh heh. Looked nothing like him though. It had a fish face.

An old next door neighbour had a big, black labradour called Lennon.

looked a little like him I 'spose...

two years pass...
I had a bunny named Naomi (after Galaxie 500's bassist, Naomi Yang). We found out it was a boy after it died (R.I.P.).

Also had a cat named Shuggie, after Shuggie Otis. He collapsed in front of us, had a seizure and died. (R.I.P.)

I don't think I'll name any pets after musicians anymore...

Sarah's cat is named Pepper, which is a very common pet name, but hers is the only one named after the Pee Chees song "Pepper."
