That Impressions record is the dorkiest album cover I've seen in a long long time.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 30 January 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's terrific!

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 30 January 2004 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

You can't seem'em in a pic this small, but NRBQ themselves are sitting in the seats.
This makes it not so literal, doesn't it? Since the record is of them performing, not attending?

The Springfield says something about American notions of "working class"!

no opinion, Friday, 30 January 2004 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it's a studio record. The cover depicts them literally at Yankee Stadium. It's a joke, geddit?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 30 January 2004 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Where approximately are they seated?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

on his foot there, do you think that's wear-and-tear on the album cover or is it salt-stains on his zippered ankle boots? salt stains on rock boots are awesome.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

billy definitely could have hung out with these dudes:

Rainbow - Straight Between The Eyes

The sleeve-art is by British artist Jeff Cummins and Hipgnosis, though has been described as "one of [Hipgnosis]' very worst; in fact, so bad, it taints the music."[8]

Kim Kimberly, Saturday, 8 November 2025 18:47 (four months ago)

From what I recall of that album the music didn't require a lot of tainting. Hipgnosis did far worse covers later on (Audioslave!) but fortunately none of them were yawnsomely literal...I don't think?

Listening to the song right now. It's incredible.

jmm, Sunday, 11 January 2026 14:15 (two months ago)

I was once in a band that loved yawnsomely literal etc. We were working on an album to be called Movers and Shakers with the front cover being staged photos of us comically attempting to load furniture into a van. The other side was to be us playing maracas and presumably other shakers.

In a tragic series of events that will astonish exactly no one, the project fizzled and the band went nowhere. But... one can never truly stop wondering what if....
