anyone else liking this new 'veter pisti' edits thing? http://www.discogs.com/Veter-Pisti-Fagget-Fairys/release/2045895
balearic edits of mike oldfield, human league, and what sounds like "sueno latino" mixed with another less familiar but still awesome tune
― psychgawsple, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 02:22 (fourteen years ago) link
try subscribing to the podcast and downloading it via iTunes - you don't have to get all the episodes (though i would recommend them, lots of great stuff from some of SF's best and largely unheard DJ's plus some stars like Balearic Mike). And yeah, the Veter Pisti 12 is great - I bought it just for the Human League edit...

Excellent! Will download this new mix now.
Was listening to "Big Smack & Flies" and yr remix of Mutron's "Alone" the other day and was wondering "do these dudes like Depeche Mode's Ultra album?"
― Tim F, Monday, 11 January 2010 13:33 (fourteen years ago) link
hey Tim, as a matter of fact I deliberately chose Mike Marsh to master our Me, Myself, Good 12" - so yeah, we love DM!
and Max, we would love to come to NY. when you can get us a gig, we are on the plane!
also some nice things coming soon: a R&R release on Rekids, another one on King Kung Foo and a new exclusive R&R dj mix for the friendly guys at Noiseinmyhead, Australia. but yes, we're slow burners :p
thanks for the nice comments.peace

Hey SF folx - I haven't gone out in a LONG TIME and am out of the loop - are there ANY regularly occuring cosmic/balearic/italo parties at the moment? oh and this is for a friend writing a story for the Weekly.

Conor is DJing Beards in April too, trying to gear it more towards the leftfield/balearic/cosmic vibe rather than just disco

about LA, i've heard good things about A Club Called Rhonda. and is blackDisco still happening? or the irregular Harvey Sarcastic parties
― jaxon, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:19 (fourteen years ago) link
club called rhonda was fun the time i went
nitedog moved to nyc iirc
― max, Thursday, 25 February 2010 23:24 (fourteen years ago) link
harvey is touring the world iirc
― average dump from average gangsters (deej), Wednesday, 3 March 2010 01:39 (fourteen years ago) link
new harvey single is pretty good. side a is a huge tech-house banger with crazy vocal, side b low-slung and dubby

Eric Duncan Modcast #42

and if you ID the tracks Eric Duncan will personally record you a voicemail!
― space cowboy (san frandisco), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 21:51 (fourteen years ago) link
also @upthread
my friend now works for the Club Called Rhonda parties and I'm pretty sure that's the hottest dance party still happening in LA besides Harvey Sarcastic Disco. I don't think Blackdisco happens with any regularity (whereas it used to be a monthly). I think there are a few nights in Silverlake, Bears in Space and stuff that Nitedog DJs at, but that's all i really know.
there's a bigger "house scene" out west with dudes like cole medina and others... i think

the BalEric D mix has an instrumental of Map Of Africa's "Map of Africa" musta come out before the album was pressed, the mix is from 2005 or something
― space cowboy (san frandisco), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 22:26 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah the instrumental was the b-side of "black skin blue eyed boys" iirc
― hobbes, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 22:41 (fourteen years ago) link
So is that Eric Duncan mix actually from 2005? Not that it really matters with balearic mixes. He was on Beats in Space last night too
― groovypanda, Wednesday, 10 March 2010 14:43 (fourteen years ago) link
Thanks for the tips abt LA - would be totally into seeing Nitedog.

so this new ESP Institute release, Concentration is a mix and it is fucking amazing. Obscurities, edits and originals it's kinda like a balearic/leftfield equivalent of the Justin V mix Try to Find Me Vol 2. Worldly disco and jazzy rock pieces... i think it's my favorite release of the year. so good for summer vibez

Lovefingers on Beats in Space tonight and billed as Lovefingers from ESP Institute so hopefully will have a similar vibe to that Concentration release
