If I had any cred worth destroying in the first place, I might actually feel guilty about going off about this today. Its just, you have people like Ned on one end of the spectrum - thoughtful, energetic, intelligent and then you have, "lollazyimagebomb". Even when deej and whiney are at their most infuriating, they at least have some passion and insight behind it.

ILX has a long and rich tradition of imageposting, to say we're "turning into 4chan" cause you dont like the way markers does it makes u the lazy one

Its not imageposting in and of itself, its the recent frequency of it. The bigger problem is when you have people like markers that don't bother to do much else.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 20 December 2010 18:13 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah and also markers used to be a kind of overly earnest but perfectly likable poster. his recent change in posting style feels really cynical and insecure in that context. i mean when you just cough up an "oh wrinklepaws" reference when people are trying to directly address you it feels like you're going through the motions of this how you do 'flippant' on ilx.

some dude, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:17 (thirteen years ago) link

"directly address you"

markers, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I mean, earnest wilco-loving "kshighway" was infinitely more fun to watch post.

markers, i'm sorry if jon or i pissed you off but if that's what it took to get you post complete sentences it was worth it imo

some dude, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:21 (thirteen years ago) link

you were fine in this thread some dude. im going to cut back on unnecessary image posting all over ilm. but i stand by the tweedy & louis ck images itt and will probably post more stuff like that in the future, just not everywhere

markers, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:23 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i mean we all post some silly images and shit sometimes, imo it's all about moderation

some dude, Monday, 20 December 2010 18:26 (thirteen years ago) link

everyone relax. we all are like wilco here.

Also, markers (pretending you don't already have me killfiled), you don't need to constantly evaluate and revise your "posting style" or "personal brand" or w/e. I liked you just fine back when you were engaging in the metal threads and getting all excited and interested in things, I just felt like you've been devolving since then and getting really, really annoying. Obviously I am not one that should be judging other people for posting styles, this thread alone has shown you have way more defenders/fans/supporters than I've ever had on this board, but the laziness was really rubbing me the wrong way (as was people holding it up as some example of great posting). I doubt that I could have handled it in a worse way than I did, but it was frustrating me. I mean, laying it all out there after being a huge asshole to you this morning, I think it comes down to feeling like I've never been taken seriously on this board and being pretty much ignored because all the stuff I'm into has way more vocal and well-spoken supporters than what I've had to offer. I'm pretty sure my bitterness this morning resulted from seeing you getting props for image-bombing the board while I'm lucky to garner 2 responses to any "serious" thread I start. Anyway, I'm done being emo and/or a total jackass on this thread.

I felt that way too for awhile. When I was most upset I had just moved and was having trouble making new friends in real life, and was feeling kind of pathetic that I couldn't even get a conversation going on a internet forum either, so I can understand.

welp, i like jon and i can understand being frustrated w/all this shit all over ilm, which is why i don't really post on these threads much at length anymore. it goes beyond image-bombing imo, but that's another story. do you have records? come to ILV.

again, kind of amazes me the hate wilco gets from certain quarters. it's like, you like neil young-y country rock occasionally filtered with a little bit of weirdness? then hey, you might like wilco.

tylerw, Monday, 20 December 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I've never really understood all the hate either, but then again, I have met some pretty insufferable Wilco fans.

i like the guys voice, a ghost is born is a pretty good album. im a wheel is a great version of the lindsay buckingham punk via soft rock new wavisms

yeah, i'm sure there are insufferable wilco fans, but y'know, there are insufferable dylan fans, or ghostface fans. i try not to let the fans get in the way of my enjoyment of the music.

wtf @ this thread

twat dust and ego overload (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 20 December 2010 19:52 (thirteen years ago) link

I had a drummer who was kinda insufferable w/the Wilco fandom. it is the kinda thing that can get in the way of just evaluating the music... that being said this band has like 3 or 4 songs I think are good (oddly each of those songs is the first track on their respective albums - Must Be High, the one that bites Laughner, and the first track on YHF) the rest just kinda wash over me in an indistinct haze of boringness

twat dust and ego overload (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 20 December 2010 19:53 (thirteen years ago) link

also I was more excited about Nels back when he was in the Fibbers tbh

twat dust and ego overload (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 20 December 2010 19:54 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i always thought wilco got stick for being an 'indie' band that dads really got into, and admitting that you liked them was like saying you had boring MOR taste across the board or something

i never got into yhf, and the ilm wilco-backlash actually kept me away for a bit, but i really like a ghost is born and i listened to sky blue sky the other day and it is, at least, an impeccably produced album.

kanellos (gbx), Monday, 20 December 2010 19:56 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm not a big wilco fan anymore but i can't imagine Summerteeth ever falling out of favor with me, that's a great mopey-pop album if ever there was one

Oh yeah, this is so true. I really like Wilco, but I'm not rabid enough to consider myself a "huge fan" though. They put out pretty solid records, although the most recent one was pretty boring imho. I was a big Sky Blue Sky supporter though.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 20 December 2010 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Shakey, do you know who Wilco's drummer is? His solo music is incredible imho. I can see how a drummer would be into Wilco, just due to his skills.

dunno if that was the appeal for my drummer (a person who was inclined to seriously argue that a) "the best period ever for music was '90-'96" and b) "nobody over the age of 40 has ever made good music") but yeah I know who Koche is.
