I think it comes down to feeling like I've never been taken seriously on this board and being pretty much ignored because all the stuff I'm into has way more vocal and well-spoken supporters than what I've had to offer. I'm pretty sure my bitterness this morning resulted from seeing you getting props for image-bombing the board while I'm lucky to garner 2 responses to any "serious" thread I start.

I felt that way too for awhile. When I was most upset I had just moved and was having trouble making new friends in real life, and was feeling kind of pathetic that I couldn't even get a conversation going on a internet forum either, so I can understand.

welp, i like jon and i can understand being frustrated w/all this shit all over ilm, which is why i don't really post on these threads much at length anymore. it goes beyond image-bombing imo, but that's another story. do you have records? come to ILV.

although tbh i don't post there much anymore either, b/c i haven't bought many new records lately.

all i gotta say is that ilxors hating on other ilxors is kinda lame guys

again, kind of amazes me the hate wilco gets from certain quarters. it's like, you like neil young-y country rock occasionally filtered with a little bit of weirdness? then hey, you might like wilco.

I've never really understood all the hate either, but then again, I have met some pretty insufferable Wilco fans.

i like the guys voice, a ghost is born is a pretty good album. im a wheel is a great version of the lindsay buckingham punk via soft rock new wavisms

yeah, i'm sure there are insufferable wilco fans, but y'know, there are insufferable dylan fans, or ghostface fans. i try not to let the fans get in the way of my enjoyment of the music.

I had a drummer who was kinda insufferable w/the Wilco fandom. it is the kinda thing that can get in the way of just evaluating the music... that being said this band has like 3 or 4 songs I think are good (oddly each of those songs is the first track on their respective albums - Must Be High, the one that bites Laughner, and the first track on YHF) the rest just kinda wash over me in an indistinct haze of boringness

also I was more excited about Nels back when he was in the Fibbers tbh

yeah i always thought wilco got stick for being an 'indie' band that dads really got into, and admitting that you liked them was like saying you had boring MOR taste across the board or something

i never got into yhf, and the ilm wilco-backlash actually kept me away for a bit, but i really like a ghost is born and i listened to sky blue sky the other day and it is, at least, an impeccably produced album.

i'm not a big wilco fan anymore but i can't imagine Summerteeth ever falling out of favor with me, that's a great mopey-pop album if ever there was one

Oh yeah, this is so true. I really like Wilco, but I'm not rabid enough to consider myself a "huge fan" though. They put out pretty solid records, although the most recent one was pretty boring imho. I was a big Sky Blue Sky supporter though.

Shakey, do you know who Wilco's drummer is? His solo music is incredible imho. I can see how a drummer would be into Wilco, just due to his skills.

dunno if that was the appeal for my drummer (a person who was inclined to seriously argue that a) "the best period ever for music was '90-'96" and b) "nobody over the age of 40 has ever made good music") but yeah I know who Koche is.

someone gave me a free copy of Sky Blue Sky when it came out and i went months and months without even removing it from the cellophane. then one morning i woke up with possibly the worst hangover of my entire life and for some reason put that CD on and i think it saved my life.

life-saving qualities aside, I'd rather listen to wilco drummer jamming out than actual wilco tbh

i was a big fan of the Kosinski novel in middle school and my first seeds of dislike for Wilco were planted when they usurped the title. not that i feel remotely as negatively about them as a lot of people do though.

Remove neil young-y and this is why I don't like them. Country rock in general is dull as dishwater (and Neil rarely is). When I first heard Summerteeth and Being There I was comparing them to the first few Old 97's albums + Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt (obv) + I dunno, the Jayhawks or something. And all those were exciting and passionate and interesting, where Wilco sounded like Muzak.

Up until the last year or so, the answer would have been "Meh" but last two albums are pretty great 90s indie rock.

Im not sure what to make of the new one yet. I like "normal american kids" a lot tho

I think they're probably splintering their fanbase a bit, so it's hard to know what to recommend, but I get taken in about halfway through the album during the run from happiness to locator especially.

Actually dug out my old Fuck (sorry, really wish they'd chosen a different name) albums, and yeah, there is a little bit of the same thing going on, though I like the recent Wilco stuff better.

Not a fan of early Wilco (anything earlier than Summerteeth) and a pick-and-choose relationship with the band for any album after Sky Blue Sky. Usually a couple of standout tracks on all of the latter-day albums. The new one and Star Wars were kind of dull to me, though.
