"Tangled Up in Blue" and "Gloria" pretty close for me--"Gloria" seems a little more of the moment, so I'll vote for that.
My favourites: Captain & Tenille's "Love Will Keep Us Together" (no lie!), Creme Soda's "Tonight" (didn't hear that one till 2007 or so), Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide," Harold Melvin's "Bad Luck," K.C.'s "Get Down Tonight" (I think the guy messed up there), Neil's "Albuquerque" or "Roll Another Number" or "Barstool Blues," O'Jays' "I Love Music" (long version), the Outlaws' "There Goes Another Love Song," Ronee Blakley's "Dues" from Nashville, Sailor's "Glass of Champagne," Steely Dan's "Dr. Wu," Steve Harley's "Make Me Smile," and Sweet's "Fox on the Run." Actually, I like '75 better than '74.

Maxine Nightingale, too, for sure--I've got it filed away as '76, not realizing it was a hit in the UK a year earlier.

75 list >>> 74 list. That's The Way, Gloria, Marcus Garvey, & Walk This Way are all more than worthy of the book title. But I'll have to vote for Tangled Up In Blue.

Oh, meant to give some love to Time For The Preacher. Willie's singing is spectacular. Can't vote for it because the Red Headed Stranger album is too much of a piece for any one track to rise above the strong competition in '75.

tough year, too many i can't deny: jive talkin', fight the power, that's the way, bohemian (fucking) rhapsody, gloria, walk this way. in the end so hard to call between queen and the isley brothers. going with fight the power, not sure why
* never heard and boggle at several of these, esp the anthemic & romantic european pop stuff. and that mystere des voix track! good news to me: boulder to birmingham, born to be with you and eugenio finardi (?) - musica ribelle, sucker for the uplift

The most glaring omission, the way I see it, is "I'm Not In Love" by 10cc. Forget about all those funk tracks (there are way too many of them and they have had to make a selection), but "I'm Not In Love" is unique and special and there is nothing else quite like it.

Pink Floyd are of course represented with the wrong track, but then, the authors hate long prog tracks with the same passion as Spotify does, so no wonder there was no room for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" here.― Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 08:41 (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

The "classics" here all leave me fairly cold. Some are good songs, but none really excite me, which left me to pick between Willie Nelson, Alice Cooper, and Gavin Bryars. I finally decided on Gavin Bryars because it's a wholly unique work, and there's lots of great rock and country ballads. Pretty specious reasoning but you gotta go with something.

maybe so, but i ran em through wikipedia & discogs, and all allegedly came out in 75, either as singles or on albums. fwiw, several were december 75 releases: AC/DC, foghat, parliament, donna summer.
"roadrunner" is the real oddball, in that it was first recorded in 72 but wasn't released until 75, on the beserkley chartbusters comp. different versions appeared on the 76 modern lovers album and the 77 "roadrunner" single.

it's an amazing song, lots of fun to sing along w, but it isn't a personal favorite, not sure why. prefer later & less anthemic bruce, esp "atlantic city" and "i'm on fire". well, and "blinded by the light", though that's hardly less anything...

yeah, though that mystére de voix bulgares track came as an equally pleasant surprise. have heard later (80s era) LMDVB tracks that didn't move me anywhere near so much.
who produced the dion track? sounds like psychedelic country by way of brian eno. and phil spector. like it, but don't know that it justifies the running time.
