I suspect the reason why no one has responded is that if you add pop fans to non-pop fans, you've got the whole population, surely? Otherwise, Journalism 101 would suggest that you start with family, friends of family, friends of friends (assuming that not all your friends are obsessives/amateur pop crits). The next stage would be institutional: if the fan aspect is key to your project, then you could try getting in touch with a random selection of fan clubs. Then there are notice boards at colleges and libraries. Small ads, of course. And finally, nastiest but sometimes necessary, you stand outside HMV and go "Excuse, I'm writing about..." Is this really what you were asking for, Tom?

You could solicit volunteers from message boards and chat groups that aren't related to pop music.
