what makes a man start polls? (Noodle Vague), Monday, 22 July 2013 09:34 (twelve years ago)

Well look on the bright side, at least none of these bands will fall foul of a club's 'no trainers' rule. The 'no looking like a complete twonk' rule might be a problem however.

as i scrape further down the barrel i'm finding that the bottom-feeders usually have one guy who hasn't quite got the look down

Our music is easy to listen to, nothing complicated, just great, positive tunes, obviously influenced by core bands like the Beatles, Oasis, and the Stone Roses. But for me personally, we are all about the songs.

woof, Monday, 22 July 2013 18:06 (twelve years ago)

"Yea definitely, the industry’s a bit too squeaky clean, and has been for quite a bit now. Hopefully we can give it a kick up the arse. Especially with The Stones Rose(sic), and Noel Gallaghers new albums sort of taking off quite big, hopefully it will be a big surge and not just one band – a movement bringing guitar bands back. Hopefully we can be involved in that." Tom from The Modern Faces.

On April 9th the band released their double A-side ‘Pravda Scrolls”/ ‘Cynical Brother’ through their own Dirty Love label, songs which have achieved the descriptions ‘anthem’ and ‘epic’ respectively.

Selena Gomez is very Neotenous for Caucasoids (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:13 (twelve years ago)

Yea I think they represent us the best as a band, you know a bit attitude, definite ballsiness and that’s exactly what we are about.

Selena Gomez is very Neotenous for Caucasoids (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:13 (twelve years ago)

thats funny bc everyone of these dudes looks crippled by self-doubt, maybe its the safety of the mob that gives them swagger

this reminds me of an email to the channel 4 teletext music pages circa 2001 in which someone complained about LADS pouring a plastic cup of piss on them at an oasis show, the way their audience comprised an awkward mixture of LADS and provincial ~indie~ dorks with extensive collections of SFA albums

so i look at these and try to imagine whether they would be pouring the piss or having pissed poured on them, except that i suspect the dialectic resolved itself somehow

Selena Gomez is very Neotenous for Caucasoids (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 13:25 (twelve years ago)

I'd be happy if these pouring piss on themselves.

rich people, just throw a million fucking quid into a burning wheelbarrow rather than paying for that turgid daub. well I guess dull competence is the appropriate style for these lads, it's not "very beautiful" it's just a poor Andy Warhol pastiche.

I was randomly watching a contemporary art auction on Youtube recently and a painting by the same artist called "Jarvis and Liam Smoking" appeared and sold for $1.5 million.

LocalGarda, Friday, 13 June 2025 11:50 (one month ago)

I hate using that "poundshop" thing when being a grumpy armchair critic, but the style seems kind of poundshop Raol Dufy. But obv having no flair and no colour sense and being a bang average illustrator is how you make million pound paintings in the UK.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Friday, 13 June 2025 12:06 (one month ago)

I need to stop getting mad about these paintings, but it is genuinely fucking infuriating.

vodkaitamin effrtvescent (calzino), Friday, 13 June 2025 12:07 (one month ago)

if these paintings were exhibited with a load of Royal Academy summer show dross, it wouldn't even stand out.

I do find it tragic the nostalgic fondness for some of these people, but I don't like the music so I guess it's a mystery to me in general.

I went to a pub in Essex last week that had loads of this stuff on the walls: Oasis posters and pictures of the Brothers Gallagher, multi-colour pictures of Keith Flint, Elton John photos, the works. Luckily the food was pretty good!
