'times fly (fast)' is the best fake jungle track ever.
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Friday, 20 July 2007 13:36 (sixteen years ago) link
YES YES YES YES YES (except maybe "Are We Here?")
― HI DERE, Friday, 20 July 2007 14:39 (sixteen years ago) link
"Are We Here" wins.
Enrique I was going to suggest you take this to the fake jungle thread but I note that you already did 2 years ago.

i remember hearing 'Times Fly' for first time and feeling half 'wow this is great (sped up)' and half 'nooooo, bandwagon'
― blueski, Friday, 20 July 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link
oh tim that has really upset me. i am senile :(

Help - what's the title of their track the first couple of minutes of which is slightly Philip Glass-sounding piano loops without a beat? I just have it listed as ? in my itunes.

Er... Science Friction? if it's 5:04 long.
― ledge, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link
Nah, 9.27!
― chap, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:20 (sixteen years ago) link
I mean Kein Trink Wasser... and yeah that's 9:20something
― ledge, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:20 (sixteen years ago) link
lurrrrve that track
Thanks! Yeah, it's great.
― chap, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link
Heh, been wondering what that track was for years now, thanks!

Do you people not have Snivilisation?!
― ledge, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link
I've only got a clutch of Orbital songs that a mate burned for me way back - keep meaning to rectify this but haven't got round to it.
― chap, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link
Get the following albums IMMEDIATELY:
Orbital 2 (Brown Album) Snivilization In Sides The Middle Of Nowhere
Those four are essential listening; the others all rank from very good to great but these four are just completely unimpeachable.
― HI DERE, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:52 (sixteen years ago) link
^ OTM!
― StanM, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link
Yep. Well except for the others all rank from very good to great... The Altogether?
― ledge, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link
I've always maintained that The Altogether is a very good album. Listening to it again over the weekend reaffirmed that belief.
Having said that, it's probably their most-skippable.
― HI DERE, Thursday, 12 June 2008 19:20 (sixteen years ago) link
tbh if you're gonna get two then In Sides and Middle Of Nowhere are absolutely absolutely essential. and if it's one SONG then "out there somewhere (pt.2)" is yer poison.

Finally saw them live in April after 28 years, almost to the day since I bought In Sides. They were great. Green was good but Brown was fucking magnificent.

digging through the remasters to remake / update my own "digital box set"...
I think the only notable exclusion is the remix of Open Mind from Funky Alternatives Six?
(notable especially because they did include various multiple radio edits and a 1999 Sasha remix)
...unless the "Chime (edit)" is actually an edit, and not a relabelling of the original 7" re-recording? Someone with better-tuned ears might confirm this.
and it's curious that they included demos The Other One and Open Mind Jam but not the Belfast Original Jam that Paul soundclouded alongside The Other One
BUT here's a fun discovery: any version of Son Of Chime was previously only available on an issue of Live At The Brain (1990)... but five years ago the bloke who ran The Brain club put out another compilation on Mixmag -- and included the same live recording of Son Of Chime, but secretly expanded to include Chime at the start as well.
