Most artists, particularly female artists, who start young are in an accelerated rush to mature musically with each new album. Avril Lavigne has gone backwards her whole career and is intellectually/sonically 8 years old now.

Didn't mean to claim that "freak" had anything to do with queer culture (it obviously does not), but it is a word that people occasionally claim for themselves (and, more frequently, have tossed at them). "Appropriation" was the wrong word, though; they're not stealing anything, just (mis)using it without any understanding of any of the potential baggage.
