which is the new swagger i reckon

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:33 (ten years ago) link

rly? i associate that look with gormless innocents. they give it a good go but deep down they know they're never gonna make it.

Merdeyeux, Friday, 8 August 2014 14:44 (ten years ago) link

the swagger mentioned above reminds me of late 70s rod stewart - a sort of laddy glammy look that's entirely laughable unless you're rod stewart (and often even then).

the dudes daphnis just linked to are posh lads trying to seem down to earth aren't they? diff thing.

"trough lolly"??? (stevie), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:47 (ten years ago) link

xp

oh i didn't mean "new swagger" as in Billy Big-Bollocks rock and roller mentality, just in terms of there being fucking hundreds of wannabe bands affecting this kind of style decision now

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:48 (ten years ago) link

yeah maybe stevie i don't know if they code as posh tho? it's kinda normcore-y and kinda "we let our music do the talking" but the beards add a certain something i can't quite nail yet

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

that kind of thoughtful styling that wants to pretend it just happened without thought

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:51 (ten years ago) link

yeah that's never been a "look" before

brimstead, Friday, 8 August 2014 23:54 (ten years ago) link

let alone, the whole point of a "look"

I had to reverse image search that to find out if it was a ticket queue, a shit fan art exhibition or a lookalike contest. Turns out it's a queue to buy overpriced parkas.

that photo has a vague being john malcovich restaurant scene vibe

brimstead, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 04:45 (ten years ago) link

it's from an opening of Liam's parka shop isn't it? It has been posted to another thread for lols IIRC

From the overlooked confines of the north, where the desolate shell of a dead industrial empire hangs heavy, this band brings light, hope and an adrenalin shock of lust, love and devastating charisma. Just when you may think that rock' n 'roll had been consigned to the history books, here comes a band that will fill your head with dreams and your heart with hope.

Slydigs’ ship sails straight and true on waves of pure blues rock 'n' roll.

Merdeyeux, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 13:33 (ten years ago) link

Fuck me.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 7 October 2014 13:45 (ten years ago) link

Now, equipped with the charisma of the Rolling Stones, the energy of The Clash and music that has so long been missed in an ever changing industry, 2014 is set to be submerged by this monstrous band.

woof, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 14:03 (ten years ago) link

i just wish there was a tambourine on the table in front of them

Interestingly, this is a direct lift from a 1963 Freddie and the Dreamers press release.

Sporting their influences proudly on their sleeves, Edinburgh’s The Holy Ghosts marry an unabashed love of rock ‘n’ roll with a lick of blues homage to The Rolling Stones, wrapped up in the sort of insouciant indie swagger that recalls Oasis in their pomp. Opener Little Kickstarter finds frontman Jack Sandison channelling Mick Jagger’s sneering vocal to great effect, but it’s a stomper that also calls to mind Primal Scream and the messy raunch of The Black Crowes.

The one on the right looks like a successful actor, the one next to him looks like he doesnt really want to this any more and wishes he was at home playing scalectrix with his nephew

saer, Thursday, 1 January 2015 13:46 (nine years ago) link

it looks a bit like a reunion photo. its 15 years later, the two on the right have come back. far right went on to stardom in an unrelated field and is returning from america, near left is returning from the Isle of Man where he works in his wifes family business, the two on the left are still living in the same flat and are excited the gang is back together again, even if its only for one night

impressive to right a gig review of Edinburgh's The Holy Ghosts without once using the phrase "complete fucking tools".

Newly signed to Mercury Records and influenced by all the very best - The Stones, Led Zep, Oasis and Kasabian - The Struts are set for the very top.

Only one good track on that one

anvil, Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:17 (nine years ago) link

is Soldier On Bungalow actually the name of that band, or is the url misleading?

elton laleham, Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:20 (nine years ago) link

oh, just noticed the preceding post. they should add an exclamation mark to the end of 'Soldier On' to make it sound like a groovy exhortation

elton laleham, Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:28 (nine years ago) link

They (or at least a graphic designer in a hurry) added an arrowhead to the N in their logo.

If you ever got a hold of my iPod touch, once you get past the four-digit code you’ll see it’s full of some of the greatest music you’ll ever hear. Ranging from Small Faces to The Seahorses, every songs a “tune”.

I think if you’re in a band you need to look cool as fuck. I want to look like I’m in a band. Parkas, Polos, Chelseas etc. Anything that’ll make people ask “Here you! You in a band?” to which I’d reply “Aye mate, Soldier On.”

Ottbot jr (NickB), Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:45 (nine years ago) link

are they all man u fans?

I’m actually really good at writing about myself. I’ve always got something to say and an opinion on most things.

yes i'm sure you do

Gombeen Dance Band (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 1 January 2015 15:56 (nine years ago) link

What would be your ideal gig?

Being the last band on at a big festival.

if only there was a convenient word for this position

I have a dislike for most people that don’t dare to be different.

You look like a bunch of miserable bastards, smile some and stop objectifying women, sexist video.

though the girl just looks vaguely bored and contemptuous throughout the whole thing, don't know if this was intentional

elton laleham, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:16 (nine years ago) link

This is a vanity project of independently wealthy dudes right?

Treeship, Thursday, 1 January 2015 16:32 (nine years ago) link

The girl did add a bit of sophistication (boredom and contempt) to the video which I liked.
