my thought on sleater-kinney is they were such an enormous critical success that a HOF finalist slot (at least) seems inevitable. they weren't some band championed by only a few critical voices, really. but I might be underestimating the ability of this partic voting bloc to ignore everyone but the gold and platinum acts.

LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Thursday, 9 October 2014 23:30 (nine years ago) link

yeah i think the replacements are a more logical "if them, then" but honestly the test will be if we see pavement as a finalist first

da croupier, Thursday, 9 October 2014 23:39 (nine years ago) link

or, like, jeepers, the pixies

da croupier, Thursday, 9 October 2014 23:41 (nine years ago) link

will be interesting to see which road the hall of fame takes as woodstock II acts lead to woodstock III acts

da croupier, Thursday, 9 October 2014 23:42 (nine years ago) link

again, assuming it gets a chance to do that

da croupier, Thursday, 9 October 2014 23:43 (nine years ago) link

yeah that's kind of my point, if S-K is in line they're in line behind the Replacements, SY, the Pixies, etc. all of whom have been eligible for a while without a shoutout. if the 120 Minutes crowd starts getting inducted, they're way way in the middle of the pack.

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 00:15 (nine years ago) link

i think Sheryl Crow was already inducted in 1998 and they're just waiting to tell us

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 00:15 (nine years ago) link

i kinda want them to waive the 25-years-after-the-debut for Grohl

I mean how can they wait till 2020 for Grohl

da croupier, Friday, 10 October 2014 00:16 (nine years ago) link

And then it's another long four years for the white stripes reunion

da croupier, Friday, 10 October 2014 00:17 (nine years ago) link

oh wait i forgot a big rock headliner for 2017: RAGE

kinda wondering if they're holding back on folks like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden for the dead years

da croupier, Friday, 10 October 2014 00:20 (nine years ago) link

Weezer eligible in 2019 yo

da croupier, Friday, 10 October 2014 00:23 (nine years ago) link

The Spinners are as deserving as anyone on that list. Nominated once before in 2012.

jetfan, Friday, 10 October 2014 01:15 (nine years ago) link

i will be the first to vote The Smiths but they don't have a chance in hell.

Bee OK, Friday, 10 October 2014 01:35 (nine years ago) link

I think one notable part of Joan Jett's musical legacy is that she was and is a true rock and roll road dog. Jett has played a serious amount of gigs over the years, she's really good on stage and I would say that is a big part of what has really kept her music going.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Will Rosy Music ever get in?

Iago Galdston, Friday, 17 October 2014 02:05 (nine years ago) link

no way

The Complainte of Ray Tabano, Friday, 17 October 2014 02:40 (nine years ago) link

it's nuts

Iago Galdston, Friday, 17 October 2014 03:36 (nine years ago) link

Curious awards these. Has anyone ever turned them down? Always makes me laugh the anti establishment only really anti until someone invites them in. Like they both secretly wanted each other in the first place.

Spinners blow chunks.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 17 October 2014 03:59 (nine years ago) link

Just kidding never fucking heard of them.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 17 October 2014 03:59 (nine years ago) link

No Maiden, no Priest, no Purple, then go fuck yourself "Spinners"

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 17 October 2014 04:01 (nine years ago) link

you've never heard of the spinners you're fucking yourself

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Friday, 17 October 2014 04:19 (nine years ago) link

Fuck the Spinners

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 17 October 2014 04:22 (nine years ago) link

Fuck em

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 17 October 2014 04:22 (nine years ago) link

If you were a heavy metal fan in the early '70s, you almost certainly would have known who the Spinners were--might have even liked them. They were all over Top 40 with a number of brilliant singles.

"Could it be I'm falling in love" ?

Mark G, Friday, 17 October 2014 06:39 (nine years ago) link

Dunno could it

jaymc, Friday, 17 October 2014 06:42 (nine years ago) link

no maiden no priest no purple then go fuck yourself spinners - sounds like a Fall song.

Hinklepicker, Friday, 17 October 2014 07:57 (nine years ago) link

If it was a Fall song, it would be "go fuck yourself DETROIT Spinners" unless Mark E. has issues with the British Spinners (and he probably does).

A band I've never heard, nor heard of, should not be in an institution I don't care about.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 17 October 2014 13:51 (nine years ago) link

There are clearly better acts here, but NIN are the most important to my personal musical history, so I'm voting for them.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Friday, 17 October 2014 13:53 (nine years ago) link

I'm voting for the Smiths just because I'd like to see Mozz and Johnny Marr together in a stage exchanging uncomfortable looks. Anyway Reed will get in eventually, and even though I like NIN, I'm not really interested in extending Reznor's upcoming award ceromony tour.

cpl593H, Friday, 17 October 2014 14:12 (nine years ago) link

Kraftwerk
Chic
The Smiths
Bill Withers
NWA

Re-Make/Re-Model, Friday, 17 October 2014 14:31 (nine years ago) link

Re the S-K talk, I mostly meant it in the context of Joan Jett -- and I wouldn't be surprised if they at least get nominated for similar token-lady-rockers reasons. But yeah who knows.

At least this thread got Sleater-Kinney to reform.

sweet lids of the stars (seandalai), Monday, 20 October 2014 22:38 (nine years ago) link

lol

how's life, Monday, 20 October 2014 23:09 (nine years ago) link

The objective was to get Sting to reform. That's fine, though.

clemenza, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 13:57 (nine years ago) link

Aren't Radiohead eligible in the next few years? They seem like a shoe-in. Is Jann Wenner still the main person behind who gets in? I doubt he's even heard of S-K.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Thursday, 23 October 2014 00:08 (nine years ago) link

Dont see why the Bangles arent in there in the mix

Master of Treacle, Thursday, 23 October 2014 01:47 (nine years ago) link

I will personally upper deck the toilet of anybody who claims to love Maiden more than me but the Spinners kick ass and deserve the hall whether Maiden's in or not. fuck anybody who doesn't love the Spinners more than life itself

The Complainte of Ray Tabano, Thursday, 23 October 2014 02:15 (nine years ago) link

one month passes...

Still no Chic, to save you the click.

how's life, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 12:27 (nine years ago) link

I bet Johnny Marr breathed a sigh of relief now he knows he won't have to put up with Mozz for another uncomfortable evening

cpl593H, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 12:31 (nine years ago) link

at first I was bummed nine inch nails didn't get in, despite being nominated...then I thought about it and was like "wait why would I be bummed about that"

franch montana (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 12:39 (nine years ago) link

Yes--I would have been thinking about the Illustrated pieces too, them and Stranded. I might even have some liner notes by him.
