"dunno, in front of the town hall? behind the cathedral? somewhere with decorative ironwork, deffo"

Marblehead Johnson also trading under the name The Morning Glories. Britpop Reloaded seem to be their only serious competition as a cross-artist Britpop tribute band.

This is a depressing world.

Given that I spent over a decade of my life working at a rehearsal studio in Camden, I'm amazed I haven't recognised any of these fuckwits yet. Only a matter of time surely, I feel like I've met them all.

Impressive - they've almost perfectly nailed an early 1970s family photos feeling. Yellow-check in particular has the time-travel vibe.

This thread is basically Young to semi-young no hopers 1995Madchen would travel forward in time to have lots of sex with. Unfortunately.

I'm kinda stumped trying to come up with a US equivalent, although I guarantee there more than a couple American bands that would fit in this presentation.

They're called Smash Fashion btw

Multiple x-post, but our "most likeable band of the day", Boston Tea Party, are local to me. I have seen the name on posters but have not heard a note.

michaellambert, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 20:31 (nine years ago) link

Would like to drop all these bands into a giant arena and watch them reel with astonishment that anyone else is sporting their startlingly original and edgy aesthetic. And then fight to the death - every last one. No victors.

having investigated Archimède a bit further I found this video which is actually pretty cute, I would like to withdraw them from the thread, the French maybe not capable of nailing the workaday crapness essential here

this whole thread is so...wow. it takes the idea of the embarrassing school photo to new levels. but if you look at the whole thing it turns into some dreary and ancient folk/cultural uniform. like they are beyond rock or being a band or musicians. you have to be pretty deep into a subculture to want to look like that. the mod thing in 2015 is pretty hard to grasp if you aren't from england. i just listened to the band that bonehead is in now just to see what kinda awful sub-Oasis hijinks ex-Oasis people are up to and it's barely even rock music. it's like listening to terrible folk music! it's almost like its built to repel outsiders.

MESSIAH are a 5 piece Indie Rock band from Edinburgh. Formed in November 2009, the band are heavily influenced by british bands such as Oasis, The Stone Roses, Verve and Kasabian.

Messiah believe the music scene is going backwards in the UK and strive to resurrect the sound of the 90’s whilst applying a modern day twist.

Messiah believe the music scene is going backwards in the UK and strive to resurrect the sound of the 90’s

And from further upthread

The band describes themselves as having a very raw and original sound, it’s a sound that mimics the 1960s

I find this wilful commitment to a specific kind of contradiction strangely laudable.
