So ecstatically good.
I think it might be because I recently watched KOTOKO, but I'm getting a bit of a Cocco vibe from her these days.

MatthewK, Wednesday, 11 March 2015 11:45 (ten years ago)

Reminds me of this feeling when discovering Visions and being not quite sure what to make it but enjoying it and playing it over and over and over. I can't think of a Grimes that had lasting effect for me (maybe Vanessa?) but the first few tens listen are intensely satisfying.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 11 March 2015 17:11 (ten years ago)

song is great (great), haven't yet bothered to watch the video

I, have not played a single track, this many times, in a day, since forever.

MatthewK, Thursday, 12 March 2015 12:28 (ten years ago)

love the whispered parts of this. and her dancing. and everything about her vocals. it's been a long time since i've felt this enthusiastic about an upcoming album.

Treeship, Thursday, 12 March 2015 13:46 (ten years ago)

Treeship, Thursday, 12 March 2015 13:47 (ten years ago)

REALiTi is on Spotify now btw.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 March 2015 15:23 (ten years ago)

Realiti is very good has a nice swing to it and considering she doesn't apparently have any help at all in production she uses her brilliant voice so smartly. One difference from her previous songs on realiti is that it seems a lot more clearly influenced by other music.

Arctic Noon Auk, Sunday, 15 March 2015 18:48 (ten years ago)

tbh her other music is influenced by some of her faves who haven't made it as big!

mh, Sunday, 15 March 2015 19:03 (ten years ago)

I'm all for Grimes making a pop crossover, but that Entropy song is so paint by numbers.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 March 2015 20:00 (ten years ago)

yeah, it's ok but it's not thrilling the way realiti is. i'm not sure i am all for anyone crossing over for the sake of crossing over. what's the point?

primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Sunday, 15 March 2015 20:26 (ten years ago)

i also don't think she is doing that, or thinking about her career in those terms. a song like realiti just sounds marketable because it is so polished, but it's still very much a grimes song.

primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Sunday, 15 March 2015 20:26 (ten years ago)

someone just told me "isn't she like, if you've heard one of her songs, you've heard them all"?

Arctic Noon Auk, Sunday, 15 March 2015 20:36 (ten years ago)

I could certainly do with fewer interjections of "Oh Baby" in her songs.

Sanpaku, Sunday, 15 March 2015 20:45 (ten years ago)

y? i like the lyrics to realiti

primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Sunday, 15 March 2015 20:45 (ten years ago)

do you think the song is referencing bowie's "once there were mountains on mountains" refrain on realiti? i think the song is kind of a rejoinder to that. bowie sings that he used to not be able to "come down" but now he doesn't think he can get back up. grimes is saying that you will always come down eventually -- so bowie's past feelings of invincibility were an illusion -- and life consists in climbing back up "every morning." seems like a winning attitude if you can maintain it.

primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Sunday, 15 March 2015 20:53 (ten years ago)

I like the new song, even if it's not as distinctive or immediate as Realiti. I also like that her vocals seem to be clearer and more intelligible than usual (either that or a week of listening to Realiti has made me Grimes-fluent)

Leonard Pine, Sunday, 15 March 2015 21:32 (ten years ago)

the new song is pleasant though not as immediately gratifying as realiti. i'd been struggling to come to terms with the idea of grimes being influenced by artists like dolly parton, taylor swift and paramore so this helps somewhat to clarify those inspirations.

bae sremmurd (monotony), Sunday, 15 March 2015 22:32 (ten years ago)

also like "Go" entropy is a collab that I wouldn't read too much into re: new album

bae sremmurd (monotony), Sunday, 15 March 2015 22:33 (ten years ago)

it's a one-off for a tv show that seems to be billed 'bleachers feat. grimes.' i think it's just a thing she did for fun and an easy check.

soyrev, Monday, 16 March 2015 01:12 (ten years ago)

soyrev OTM. This song played over the credits of tonight's episode of 'Girls'

No mention of the tour with Lana Del Rey yet? Would have been great if it was Lana del Rey, Grimes, and Courtney Love all together on one bill.

grimes is rare almost holy trifecta of good on twitter/good on instagram/good on tumblr

tender is the late-night daypart (schlump), Friday, 3 April 2015 01:01 (ten years ago)

for a celeb her twitter is good, and personal, not just a PR arm. it's a mixture of

- i love call of duty/taylor swift/pokemon/dolly parton/x men/im a really normal geek not weird
- cutesy weird platitudes, observations, inner thoughts
- psychedelic elves and shit

but occasionally this

great call

soyrev, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 04:45 (ten years ago)

So still no release date for the new album ?
3 years is a very long time to follow up a successful first album (ok, still far from Stone Roses timing but still !)

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 09:30 (ten years ago)

it was her third album

Number None, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 10:00 (ten years ago)

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 10:15 (ten years ago)

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 10:17 (ten years ago)

a 3 year album cycle is fairly normal these days, even after debut/breakthrough albums like this

ufo, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:11 (ten years ago)

https://twitter.com/Grimezsz/status/587066373475450880 she's hoping to finish the album in the next month or so, so it's not too far away

ufo, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:14 (ten years ago)

yeah maybe... I must be old (school) !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 11:16 (ten years ago)
