This David Thomas interview kinda justifies Tidal's existence all by itself.

Every movement throughout history began with a few individuals banding together with a vision, a vision.. a vision to change the status quo.

just sign up for free and put a cancellation reminder on your calendar.
You don't even need to do that. Turn around and cancel five minutes later and you're still good to go for the next 30 days.

good idea. did not think of that.

Spotify surged back into the iPad top 40 download chart on March 31st, right when Tidal’s anti-Spotify invective hit its peak in American media. This had not happened since November 2014.It looks like Tidal’s attacks on Spotify and Pandora actually managed to increase public awareness of the services, boosting Spotify’s download performance in particular at the end of March.

The new CEO Peter Tonstad, a former consultant for the Norwegian Ministry of Environment, has his work cut out for him.
if businessweek don't call their profile piece 'meet the cnut trying to turn tidal around' then i will sincerely be questioning their standards in journalism

can't help but feel like jay-z hopped into this game more or less b/c apple's beats buyout saw dre leapfrogging him as world's most paid rapper, so i do feel a bit bad for him that it's only widening the gap

i didn't care much for Spotify's head honcho's tone in his tweets to Geoff Barrow and Tom Mcrae last week about crap revenue from streams

@tommcrae you seem to be confused about how our model works. Have you even visited http://Spotifyartists.com ?

― piscesx, Wednesday, 22 April 2015 22:50 (nine years ago) link
oh come on it was SUPPOSED to fail. it's all a carefully managed show.
the clues are in the names:
spotify=i oft spy=gov't surveillance
pandora=a box of secrets you don't want to open
tidal=the tsunami caused by the meteor that the illuminati are using rockets to summon to earth and destroy all life except for the elites who will be relaxing in a bunker with eargasm-inducing streaming audio pumping into their headphones while the rest of us drown

the thing is that any EXCLUSIVE will not be exclusive for long; unless you have a considerable body of content, putting up a paywall doesn't keep your content in, it keeps your listeners out. Five albums won't save tidal; a year of exclusive genre wide content might but it's hard to view this as a "plan" so much as a series of increasingly desperate moves
― Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 23 April 2015 03:47 (nine years ago) link

They should have announced some exclusive albums at the press conference - "a new Beyonce album" is way more plausible an incentive for 100k+ people to change streaming services than "FLAC"

A write off are expenses you net against income on taxes. You have to make income to write off a debt.
