Regarding the KillVMaim video: I like the outfits and the videogame references but Claire and her brother should let someone else do the directing and editing of the videos. I can see the potential but it looks very tacky, the whole thing is sort of messy, some cuts going on for too long, some are too short, lips don't sync with the song... it doesn't match the energy of the song at all.

I loved the video for Realiti mind you and they did that one too, but this one clearly required someone with more time and experience.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 4 February 2016 00:51 (nine years ago)
i gotta agree with ya there. i'd allow a lot of leeway for amateurish charm, but its flaws aren't really charming, just feels off
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 4 February 2016 00:52 (nine years ago)
Exactly what I thought too watching it. This song is so fast, but the video kind of drags.

lol of course aenima is on there. awesome

Video feels like fiftysomething dude's idea of what the young folk like. Tune is great though.
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 4 February 2016 08:16 (nine years ago)
She should have done a twenty something version of what the old folks like
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 4 February 2016 12:56 (nine years ago)
eheh. what do 50smthg people like ? good restaurants, week-ends in the country, opera... (I'm closer to 50 than to 20 !)

She should have done an Adele album?
― MarkoP, Thursday, 4 February 2016 13:35 (nine years ago)
I saw her live last night! She still doesn't know all the words to "Butterfly" yet and had a lyric sheet in her hand as an aide. Ave Maria cover was pretty ~wut~, but it kind of worked. The last time I saw her was 2012 and she barely spoke and was this intense figure darting between all her gear like she was frantically operating the motherboard of a spaceship. Now she spends a lot more time out front dancing and getting down, which suits her.
A lot of favourites from the new album were paid dust (no "World Princess pt II" or "Artangels") but "Kill V. Maim" was a riot.

ahah, following your comment I have checked and Adele and Grimes are the same age : class 88 !
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 4 February 2016 13:47 (nine years ago)
i'm sure that both are pretty happy with where they're at right now
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 4 February 2016 14:07 (nine years ago)
It may me feel really old when she wrote about hearing "Fever to Tell" as some kind of formative listening experience. It seems like that just came out yesterday.

Stupid sensationalist headline made me think she had died.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 07:28 (nine years ago)
That's one of my pet peeves. Glad she hasn't been electrocuted. When it comes to onstage electrocutions, I mostly just think of the guy from Stone the Crows back in the 70s, but there was a singer who got killed just a few years ago in Argentina.
― how's life, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 09:56 (nine years ago)
i've gotten electrocuted before while playing a show but usually that's cos it's in a crappy basement or otherwise makeshift venue w no grounding, not a real venue, that is bs.

She did good, it's all that matters. Sure this could have, should have be more important than say, Taylor Swift in an ideal universe but she did good.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 21 April 2016 07:28 (nine years ago)
these songs are so jam packed full of ideas. like, even a seemingly simple one like "california" has that pon de replay beat mixed with that rumbling western guitar line and just all this stuff you wouldn't think to put together.
― Treeship, Thursday, 21 April 2016 13:25 (nine years ago)
but it never sounds busy or weighed down either. she's like a magician.
― Treeship, Thursday, 21 April 2016 13:27 (nine years ago)
kill v main is my new jam though
the "eh" in "eh, i don't behave" is a nice canadian flourish in a song about a time traveling "italiana mobster looking so precious"
― Treeship, Thursday, 21 April 2016 13:32 (nine years ago)

I gave Art Angels a run for the first time in over a month yesterday and it didn't strike me as unimpeachable as it did initially. But I stand by my initial assessment that its' highlights are easily the best things she's recorded.

My 3yo daughter is absolutely batshit insane in love with Kill V Maim, and I agree with her that it's a great song

it is not "don't be hateful"
― james brooks, Sunday, 24 April 2016 20:20 (nine years ago)
I know this is redundant as hell, but man, 'REALiTi' is such a wonderful song. Just absolutely gorgeous and transcendent.

she used a completely different version of the song for this, much more subdued. once again the video starts off strong but goes nowhere, there are all these cool set pieces but nothing really happens, not very compelling, never gains momentum.
― flappy bird, Monday, 9 May 2016 18:01 (nine years ago)
music videos don't need to go anywhere. it's fun watching her dancing around in weird outfits on cool sets.
love the new mix.
― Treeship, Monday, 9 May 2016 18:40 (nine years ago)
It's a little disjointed, but I love all the set pieces individually. The new mix is v bitchin.
