I liked their performance but they were definite victims of SNL sound. Could barely even hear the singing at times

they haven't been playing "ugh" live at all so i wasn't surprised. they played "the sound" and "love me"

they said they haven't rehearsed Ugh enough yet but I expect they'll start playing it once the album comes out

also "love me" and "the sound" are way bigger hits so i wasn't exactly surprised

Lead singer annoying on SNL, and whole thing sounded a little meh, but TV sound not reliable, and I'll check the alb because of this thread (thanks, I hope)

The performance of 'the sound' is probably the best thing I've seen in my life.

I think Matt could tone down on the mugging just a bit. I mean I know half of his lyrics are having a dig at himself but I think eventually it starts to undercut the emotional force of the songs. He should save it for key jokes. "You're so conceited! I said I loved you! What does it matter if I lied to you?" would be funnier if he delivered it like it wasn't funny.

I was also disappointed at first that they didn't do "UGH!" but it's probably better that such a perfect song isn't sullied by SNL's awful sound

& i like it being down at track 13 on the album, i feel like this eruption is gonna feel really earned following these "moody" "atmospheric" slow burners like the six and a half minute title track that precedes it & it's gonna be akin to "faith" on armor on ok

apparently the album ends with three v depressing songs too so it'll be a very isolated "up" moment

Ha same. I can already tell that it will be a highlight for me. Does sound like a total rewrite of "Settle Down" but that song is probably top 5 songs of this decade for me so I'll take anything that prolongs the magic

Wow Matty is going low on that chorus - audio manipulation or his singing voice? Sounds like a different band almost, until the second verse, when it gets more first album-y. Great song!

the lowest matty's gone range-wise is the verses of "antichrist" which is even lower than on this song. it's def manipulated here though, especially on the bridge

Oh yeah, forgot "Antichrist". That's another track where they sound like a different band to me, maybe Interpol *ducks*, before Matty takes it up an octave. I guess his usual singing range is the essence of the band, for me
