The performance of 'the sound' is probably the best thing I've seen in my life.

Nourry, Sunday, 7 February 2016 20:26 (ten years ago)

I think Matt could tone down on the mugging just a bit. I mean I know half of his lyrics are having a dig at himself but I think eventually it starts to undercut the emotional force of the songs. He should save it for key jokes. "You're so conceited! I said I loved you! What does it matter if I lied to you?" would be funnier if he delivered it like it wasn't funny.

Tim F, Sunday, 7 February 2016 20:41 (ten years ago)

I was also disappointed at first that they didn't do "UGH!" but it's probably better that such a perfect song isn't sullied by SNL's awful sound

he's doing a permanent super-drunk-young-mick-jagger & I'm totally ok with it

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 7 February 2016 23:02 (ten years ago)

studio version of "somebody else" may or may not come out this week

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Monday, 8 February 2016 14:41 (ten years ago)

(Healy has gotten very into Connecticut-formed post-rock collective the World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die recently: “They’ve got the best name ever.”)

lol of course

also: Where gauzy, instrumental dream-pop made up a couple of interludes on the debut, it encompasses entire bends of the 1975’s new record.

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 11 February 2016 19:32 (ten years ago)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 February 2016 20:00 (ten years ago)

Haha these guys

Tim F, Thursday, 11 February 2016 21:07 (ten years ago)

whewww "the sound" can like reaaaaally transform u in the right moment, the right moment being v off your face in a gay club. greatest clubbing experience since i had a breakdown to "only girl in the world" in 2010 maybe

& i like it being down at track 13 on the album, i feel like this eruption is gonna feel really earned following these "moody" "atmospheric" slow burners like the six and a half minute title track that precedes it & it's gonna be akin to "faith" on armor on ok

uberweiss, Thursday, 11 February 2016 22:44 (ten years ago)

apparently the album ends with three v depressing songs too so it'll be a very isolated "up" moment

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 February 2016 22:45 (ten years ago)

I don't hold out much hope of this happening in gay clubs in Melbourne ;_;

Tim F, Thursday, 11 February 2016 23:11 (ten years ago)

yeah can someone please take me to that moment

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 February 2016 23:12 (ten years ago)

lq live rip of "she's american" gets me so blissed out & lightheaded, i am not sure i can cope with a studio version hitting my ears, what genius came up with the idea to just remake "settle down" with basically no amendments

uberweiss, Saturday, 13 February 2016 00:36 (ten years ago)

Ha same. I can already tell that it will be a highlight for me. Does sound like a total rewrite of "Settle Down" but that song is probably top 5 songs of this decade for me so I'll take anything that prolongs the magic

Vinnie, Sunday, 14 February 2016 12:27 (ten years ago)

the bridge + sax interlude in she's american really lift it above settle down imo

ufo, Sunday, 14 February 2016 12:56 (ten years ago)

my heart just stopped

uberweiss, Monday, 15 February 2016 17:46 (ten years ago)

after listening to "somebody else" like this band is going to fucking kill me

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Monday, 15 February 2016 18:25 (ten years ago)

I don't want your body
But I hate to think about you with somebody else

this is just too much for me to handle right now.

Nourry, Monday, 15 February 2016 18:26 (ten years ago)

I'M SO LIGHTHEADEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

j. winters (josh), Monday, 15 February 2016 18:27 (ten years ago)

i just can't stop listening to it. fuck you matty. if you play this in july i think i will literally die in the middle of the crowd. i apologize for all this madness.

Nourry, Monday, 15 February 2016 18:39 (ten years ago)

i can't give you my soul 'cause we're never alone

uberweiss, Monday, 15 February 2016 18:57 (ten years ago)

ugh when can i listen to the unedited version minus zane lowe

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Monday, 15 February 2016 22:35 (ten years ago)

oh, tonight apparently

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Monday, 15 February 2016 22:49 (ten years ago)

this is so good and it's just the radio edit!

this album seems like it's going to be such an enormous step above their debut and it's not like the debut was bad

ufo, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 00:30 (ten years ago)

Wow Matty is going low on that chorus - audio manipulation or his singing voice? Sounds like a different band almost, until the second verse, when it gets more first album-y. Great song!

Vinnie, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 03:25 (ten years ago)

the lowest matty's gone range-wise is the verses of "antichrist" which is even lower than on this song. it's def manipulated here though, especially on the bridge

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 03:38 (ten years ago)

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 05:10 (ten years ago)

Oh yeah, forgot "Antichrist". That's another track where they sound like a different band to me, maybe Interpol *ducks*, before Matty takes it up an octave. I guess his usual singing range is the essence of the band, for me

Vinnie, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 06:33 (ten years ago)

His voice is pretty low for most of "Me" too.

Tim F, Tuesday, 16 February 2016 06:37 (ten years ago)

help can't stop listening

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 20:48 (ten years ago)

think when i first saw a live video i said it was a gorgeous composite of their album approach and their ep approach i.e. a pop song but submerged and blurred until it's a sustained blush. their best song yet

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 21:01 (ten years ago)

the lyrics are also crushing for reasons i'd rather not get into

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 21:01 (ten years ago)

this song was so obviously good from the live recording, basically im just happy they didn't fuck up the mixing or something, like it's more or less how i imagined it would sound

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 21:05 (ten years ago)

there's a real danger in listening to the live version 1st & falling for it!

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 21:05 (ten years ago)

^^^ this happened with me and "the sound" but "somebody else" translated perfectly

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 21:06 (ten years ago)

if anything it sounds more absorbing

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 21:07 (ten years ago)

"“Somebody Else,” the album’s latest pre-release single, is their attempt at chillwave"

looking forward to the criticism this record will generate in a "michael jackson popcorn gif" sorta way
