"Mr Jones" performed as if it's secretly Simply Red's "It's Only Love (Valentine Remix)".

(Simply Red are one of the few remaining useful reference points that doesn't seem to come up in respect of this band)

The way Breihan describes them at Stereogum makes me think of Franz Ferdinand (who I liked for their first 3 albums). And I liked the debut, so I'll definitely check this out.

omg She's American is an idealised version of the first album it's fantastic. the sax solo is different to the live version though weird. I Believe You really does sound like D'Angelo it's gorgeous

they don't really resemble each other musically but i've been thinking of it in conjunction with the paramore s/t both in terms of length and of feeling a group really expand their dimensions

Please Be Naked through to The Ballad of Me And My Brain wow this is so expansive & there's nothing close to a dud so far.

Pressure on the debut kinda reminded me of the Paramore s/t

btw I get this but they're among the two most devastating tracks on the record subject matter-wise

God almighty the studio version of "She's American". Absolutely glorious. Everything I hoped for. Had to close the door to my room so my roommate wouldn't see me dancing like a maniac

My thought process after first listen: "people are being silly, there aren't that many curveballs on this...just the ambient instrumental, and the shoegaze one, and the electro-D'angelo one, and the acoustic stuff...oh, wait."

If I have a criticism it's that a few more songs could stand to be trimmed down to "Ugh!" / "Ballad of Me and My Brain" length.
