im so mad at myself for not instantly realizing how stunning "somebody else" is
Easily the song I've replayed the most this year, with no sign of wearing it out.

crazy how you sit through an hour of this album and then "paris" just the most disarming song

Took my daughter down to the London pop-up shop on Sunday (because we were told we could come straight in). Felt guilty about queue jumping past several thousands people. And very self conscious as a middle aged man - was only there for my daughter. In consequence, I ended up letting her spend £170 of my money. Including £100 on a framed print of the Ballad of Me and My Brain photo (https://images.rapgenius.com/4526a817ad55bfdba66ec5c45bbc80d4.1000x666x1.jpg), for her room. It was billed as an edition of 1/1, so with a bit of luck that's my pension sorted.

"ugh" is kind of amaing live
i also love that the "ballad of me and my brain" image actually includes a sainsbury's lol
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 1 March 2016 16:04 (ten years ago)
it is the very Sainsbury's from the song. The second window up on the far side of the street, cut in half by the corner of the Sainsbury's block, is Matthew's old flat in Shepherd's Bush.
― Roaming gang of aggressive circlepits (ithappens), Tuesday, 1 March 2016 16:06 (ten years ago)
omg "if i believe you" live
ok i wasn't going to see them at barclays but now maybe i have to?
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 1 March 2016 16:36 (ten years ago)
apparently there's a twitter...listening party? at 5 today? idk what that means.
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:18 (ten years ago)
Any money says this will enter both US and UK album charts at No 1.

I hope so!

The middle stretch from "Please Be Naked" to the title track has grown on me a lot. I don't think she gets much love here, but I hear some Imogen Heap in a few of those tracks, and they pull off her sound as well as she does. The last three tracks still don't do much for me yet though
I noticed that "The Sound" and "She's American" share the same first seven notes for the chorus! I still love both in pretty different ways

seems like they're gonna get beat by adele in the US but will beat macklemore which is a nice consolation prize
― J0rdan S., Friday, 4 March 2016 17:51 (ten years ago)
people who aren't into "paris" are dead 2 me
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 4 March 2016 20:56 (ten years ago)
sorry vinnie
i haven't really been listening to the two singles at the beginning or the two songs at the end that much so i consider "change of heart" and "paris" to be really nice bookends
― J0rdan S., Friday, 4 March 2016 20:57 (ten years ago)
oh shit no. 1 in the u.s.

Saw the opening night of the tour last night (going again on Monday). Don't miss this show if you have the chance to see it. I'd say it's 15 mins too long (there's a mid pace sag in the middle), but overall it is astounding. The production design is stunning. The setlist is fantastic. As Dorian, who I was with, said to me: This is a band who are doing everything right. It was quite overwhelming.
― Roaming gang of aggressive circlepits (ithappens), Saturday, 5 March 2016 11:21 (ten years ago)
the setlist looks sick, i'd maybe have subbed out "so far (it's alright)" [which "loving someone" is kind of an even more amazing version of??] for "this must be my dream" [i mean or "pressure" which is still the best song of all time] but fuckkk i'm so hype
i was frantically searching for live videos of "anobrain" and then i realised OH WAIT I AM SEEING THEM ON WEDNESDAY <3 <3 <3 so maybe i shouldn't go down that rabbit hole rn
― uberweiss, Saturday, 5 March 2016 15:10 (ten years ago)
i wish they'd start playing "head.cars.bending" again (when they opened their set with it the first time i saw them in 2013 i was like "oh wow this band is special") but i have no complaints about the setlist and am considering buying tickets I can't afford for barclays
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 March 2016 17:52 (ten years ago)
thanks alfred for comparing "this must be my dream" to the system
hang a sign upon the door, it said this must be my dreeeam
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 March 2016 18:08 (ten years ago)
I bought a physical copy in Target this morning and danced in the shorts aisle.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 5 March 2016 18:10 (ten years ago)
I wanted to buy this on vinyl but it's currently $40 at my local store. It's a great album and everything but that price is crazy, even when it's clear vinyl.
― Kitchen Person, Saturday, 5 March 2016 20:11 (ten years ago)
Giving this a shot, nice to have something the splits the difference between Phoenix and Maroon 5. Bummed that "Please Be Naked" doesn't sound at all like "The Big Ship," imo - more like one of those Phoenix instrumentals - but "Change of Heart" sure sounds like "Crazy for You."
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 5 March 2016 20:19 (ten years ago)
phoenix? huh. have they been mentioned in this thread before lol
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 March 2016 21:06 (ten years ago)
I've waited many years for Phoenix to get interesting.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 5 March 2016 21:12 (ten years ago)
xpost Have they? I haven't read the whole thread, was just curious. Younger daughter (age 8) btw immediately asked if it was the same band that did "Sugar."
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 5 March 2016 21:16 (ten years ago)
oh joshpaws
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 5 March 2016 21:17 (ten years ago)
xpost oh hahaha there's actually a post somewhere upthread where someone lists every band that we've compared them to in this thread, it's a pretty staggering range
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 March 2016 21:21 (ten years ago)
That's funny. That might be why it's so much fun, something for everyone. A band like Maroon 5, I'm not sure they bring anything to mind. Maybe suicide.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 5 March 2016 21:38 (ten years ago)
lol slocki compared them to maroon 5 also
― Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Saturday, 5 March 2016 23:44 (ten years ago)
I feel like they mitigate their latent Maroon 5-ness.
― Hey (Extended Mix), Sunday, 6 March 2016 00:01 (ten years ago)
true heirs to maroon 5 is a worthy title imo
― flopson, Sunday, 6 March 2016 00:02 (ten years ago)
I compared them to Adam & the Marooned too.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 6 March 2016 00:13 (ten years ago)
If this album wins the EOY poll it's gonna break ILM like Trump and the GOP.
― Tim F, Sunday, 6 March 2016 00:26 (ten years ago)
i mean it's early but it'll almost certainly be my aoty
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 6 March 2016 00:39 (ten years ago)
lol i don't think this has much hope of #1 in our EOY what with the KING album existing and a beyoncé album on the way
― art baengels (monotony), Sunday, 6 March 2016 00:41 (ten years ago)
this is easily one of the best albums i've heard in the last 5 years
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 March 2016 04:24 (ten years ago)
Yeah, I think KING could probably overtake it. Also Blackstar as well.
― MarkoP, Sunday, 6 March 2016 04:29 (ten years ago)
Or maybe it will just go to HAIM again.
― MarkoP, Sunday, 6 March 2016 04:33 (ten years ago)
I love the king album but this gets the edge over the king album to me
― Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Sunday, 6 March 2016 05:01 (ten years ago)
KING is Marco Rubio. Beyonce is Jeb Bush. Haim is Ted Cruz.
― Tim F, Sunday, 6 March 2016 10:55 (ten years ago)
delet this
― r|t|c, Sunday, 6 March 2016 11:04 (ten years ago)
This is a great album in the best sense. I tried cherrypicking some songs for a playlist to prune the length and that didn't work at all, it's been really thought through and you need it all for the full experience.
― Leonard Pine, Sunday, 6 March 2016 13:29 (ten years ago)
I've been persuaded, slightly against my better judgment, to go to another show in Manchester next week by their publicist.
― Roaming gang of aggressive circlepits (ithappens), Wednesday, 9 March 2016 09:22 (ten years ago)
#1 in Amerikay
