a) clearly not Swag in aesthetic or sound
b) really cool idea making a vid about torturing norms which has no relation or bearing to anything that might have happened in real life

Herodotus Reading (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 21 August 2016 09:31 (eight years ago) link

this last few weeks has seen a pretty big revival of the swagger bands. 2 of them (both already mentioned?) Catfish and Blossoms have each had a number 1 album in the UK. Blossoms are still number 1 now. suddenly the mix of Roses and whoever is popular again. I'd never have thought it possible even a year ago.

Brexit.

We need to talk about Kevin.

It seems like we're entering the age of 'Kevin'. I don't think I've encountered my own name (not referring to me) so often as I have over the past couple of years.

There's now a show on Radio X (the new XFM) called 'Indie Landfill'

Could have called it "Indie Ghetto", and go Elvis to sing the theme song.

Sure, and the Undertones, for example. It's completely a subjective thing, but it just seems like I'm encountering a lot more Kevins atm. Growing up it seemed the only other Kevin was the wine gums fruit bat.

Based in Halifax the band play country wide and are heavily influenced by bands such as Stones, The Who and Oasis. Plenty of original material as well.

we'll be the judge of that lads

So, for our readers who haven’t come across you yet, how would you describe the band?

We pride our sound on being unique and try not to be like many others.

Can you describe the band in 3 words?

Fucking mega mate!

Desert Island disc?

Oasis, Definitely Maybe – easy!

The problem with Smile Awhile is that their frontman appears to be Bruce Dickinson

The Mary Hopkins version is perfectly charming. It is a Russian song from the great terror era so I'm sure the inherent tragedy that is imbued in it wasn't lost at all on these sensitive artistes :p

calzino, Monday, 30 January 2017 23:14 (seven years ago) link

We're apparently in the midst of another great terror era... if ILX is to be believed.

Was thinking the other day watching the (not very good) ''Thoroughly Modern Millie'' - at this point in time, the Lennonisms being aped here are older than McCartney's ''granny'' tropes, Millie's roaring-twenties nostalgia (also for then-still-living grannies) or the general Edwardian bicycle-built-for-two steez were in the mid-to-late-60s. Surely it will have to run out of steam eventually, right?
