but i mean the thing about Creed is they take me back to a time when there were good feelings, so it's kind of a muddled experience

it's hard for me to hate a lot of modern rock from my middle school years

that's the thing that gets ya, the nostalgia factor

3 Doors Down and Lifehouse are both WAY WAY WAY WAY better than Creed.

otoh it's hard to argue with "311, I am ready to fight"

nostalgia: the reason why stone temple pilots are able to get headlining spots at festivals.

i'm interested to see how the creed tour sells. i really want to know how many closeted creed fans there are out there.

I know of one dude that still listens to Creed and he certainly isn't closeted about it. He just thinks its awesome "rawk" music.

Basically I don't think those that were ever Creed stans are likely to have been shy about it now, I mean these are the dudes that trace a line through Led Zep, AC/DC, Stone Temple Pilots, Creed, Linkin Park as radio friendly hard-rock.

Five years after their highly acrimonious split, Creed are reforming for a new album and an American tour, which kicks off August 6th in Pittsburgh and runs through October 14th. “I wouldn’t call it a reunion,” says singer Scott Stapp. “It’s a renewing and a rebirth. I missed my boys and wanted to create music with them again. We’re all thrilled to have a second chance to make a first impression.”

The reconciliation began last December when Stapp reached out to Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti. They agreed to meet up at the Hard Rock Hotel in Florida before Stapp sang the “National Anthem” at the Champs Sports Bowl. “I was nervous, but also excited because I knew Mark would bring nothing but positivity,” says Stapp. “We exchanged family pictures and within 20 minutes we were jamming on acoustic guitars and talking about new songs.” They soon met up with drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall, who left Creed in 2000 but is returning for the new album and tour. “At that meeting we were collectively saying, ‘Hey man, I’m sorry if I hurt you or my choices did anything to cause you any pain. I have nothing but love and forgiveness for you and I hope you can forgive me. It’s all part of the process of reflection and not looking back at the six months out of 10 years that were trying.”

Stapp and Tremonti already have six demos for the new album, which they plan on recording shortly in Nashville. They are currently looking for a producer. “We’re reached out to Brendan O’Brien, Mutt Lange, Bob Rock, Steve Lillywhite and six or seven more,” says Stapp. “We want to put ourselves around the best and have them bring out the best in us and challenge us as artists.” The likely title track is “Full Circle.” “It’s a favorite for all of us,” says Stapp. “It really defines and articulates, melody-wise and lyrically, what’s happened with us. We’ve come full circle and it’s a great place to be. The goal is get release the first single before the tour and have the album come out during the tour or right after.”

What’s the status of Stapp’s long-in-the-works second solo disc? “I’m not really thinking about that right now,” he says. “It would be irresponsible for me to think about anything but Creed. This band is my first love and a first love that’s stood the test of time. It’s not hard to step away from any kind of personal agenda when you are totally fulfilled.”

coupla points about creed. i'll admit to liking their first album. and that's it. stapp is an egomaniac who once in a yahoo chat interview claimed he kicked eddie vedder's ass vocally (in response to one of the audience member's questions).

and lets not forget how they seem to think their music has some kind of esoteric weight beyond spiritual wannabe post-grunge. if i ever hear 'with eyes wide open' again, i might have to find the masters and burn them

I will admit to liking "My Sacrifice", mostly for Mark Tremonti's (had to Google his name ) guitar licks (the riff that propels the bridge is actually pretty rocking, in a responsible and adult-like fashion), but that "six feet from the edge" song should be BANNED FOREVER.

why do people keep calling Creed christian? the lyrics may be "spiritual" or whatever but I'm pretty sure there is no actual connection to CCM & christian rocker types don't consider them part of that scene i think

My problem with Creed is not Stapp's voice (works well in context) or persona (rock music is chock full of douchebags) or the guitar riffs (decent hard rock). My problem is that, like pretty much every post-grunge rock band in America, the songs are too fucking slow. They do not "rock." They shuffle from foot to foot. It's no wonder their videos have so much slo-mo in 'em; their drummer plays in slow motion. Staind are actually worse offenders in this regard (did they release one single that wasn't a fucking dirge?), but Creed are a prime example of trudge-rock. The only Creed song I like even a little is "Bullets," because for at least part of its running time the drummer wakes up, and the band gets into second gear. They don't sustain it, of course. But for a minute or so, they are a genuinely rockin' band. (They pull the same trick on the new single, "Overcome.")

i guess the fact that creed has actual pop songs and stuff make them automatically better than a lot of bands i don't even know the name of. shinedown? is that one of them? i just hate this type of music tbh

I've been trying to get people to refer to this vocal style as "reer" for many years.. Here's something I wrote about it a long time ago on my friends facebook..

"Reer" is a vocal style that became popular by a young surfer named Edward Vedder from The Pearl Jam.. it's main characteristic is how often there's extra emphasis on the "err's" and "rree's".. a few years later the style was adopted by singers from far more mediocre bands such as Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish, and eventually an entire mainstream rock subgenre was built around it starting in 1998 by the emergence of Creed's Scott Stapp, eventually resulting in its peak in popularity which took place between 2000 and 2002 with Chad Kroger from Nickleback, Aaron Lewis from Staind, and that asshole from Godsmack.. one of the most recent big hit songs of this type was "Lips Of An Angel" from Hinder. lots of modern mainstream country singers also use this vocal style, but it's normally used to describe bullshit bar-rock where the singer sounds like eddie vedder.

I recall writing that during that during work using my phone keypad which is why I'll have to apologize for the poor grammar and word choice, but you get the point..
