where do i leave my corpse?

Nourry, Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:11 (nine years ago)

i'm inconsolable tbh

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:21 (nine years ago)

i can't get used to the fact that this band can always wreck me in ways i thought inimaginable. and i love that this is the path they choose to follow after 'i like it when you sleep...', although it can mean nothing.

not gonna lie that zing was legit

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:28 (nine years ago)

:D

imago, Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:28 (nine years ago)

lmao turrican

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:33 (nine years ago)

Yeah, did not like that at all. Covering a Sade song as a sad robot is a bad move.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Tuesday, 21 February 2017 19:48 (nine years ago)

yeah I really liked the album and thought it was a huge step forward, but this isn't a great version at all

People thinking the Brits have been "hacked" tonight

I HAVE ONLY JUST FOUND OUT THIS NEW SINGLE IS ACTUALLY A GODDAMN SADE COVER. THEY DARED. THEY FUCKING DARED APPROACH THE HEM.

LORD GIVE ME THE CONFIDENCE OF A MEDIOCRE WHITE MAN ETC ETC ETC

lex pretend, Friday, 24 February 2017 17:48 (nine years ago)

lol

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 17:50 (nine years ago)

I didn't think the Futureheads desecrating Kate Bush would be outdone in my lifetime

lex pretend, Friday, 24 February 2017 17:52 (nine years ago)

haha i am not that outraged but it does betray a...... lack of self-awareness, or at least Sade-awareness, on par with i dunno chvrches doing a stereolab cover? you just don't mess, it does you no favours

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:00 (nine years ago)

or like...when chvrches did a bauhaus cover

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:02 (nine years ago)

Stereogum ran a whole article this week on cover versions of this song. They were uniformly awful.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:03 (nine years ago)

I would gladly listen to Chvrches cover Stereolab.

MarkoP, Friday, 24 February 2017 18:04 (nine years ago)

chvrches doing "bela lugosi's dead" feels way more out-of-depth than this though, not that i'm justifying this cover to people who will believe me on that point

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:04 (nine years ago)

that chvrches cover is so bizarre, i had totally forgotten about it

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:05 (nine years ago)

besides which the "by your side" cover doesn't veer from the original arrangement or reconstruct it as a rock song a la futureheads, just sort of faithfully recreates it with saxophones and synths and i assume someone humming through a distortion pedal, w matty singing through a vocoder. the anger it inspires is just another exponent of the significant contempt ppl already feel for this band, sade injury added to general insult

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:14 (nine years ago)

though i guess now that they've trolled lex so directly they can break up

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:15 (nine years ago)

what's up with the posts in this thread about how this cover is bad

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 February 2017 18:17 (nine years ago)

matty using a vocoder kinda subverted how i genuinely would rather not hear anyone but sade sing this song. it's like the inverse of bon iver's bonnie raitt cover, which is well-intentioned and intolerable

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 24 February 2017 18:24 (nine years ago)

it's like they took the outro of "if i believe you" and made it a whole song, can't think of anything i'd want more in my life

J0rdan S., Friday, 24 February 2017 19:37 (nine years ago)

definitely better than justin vernon's autotune cover

ufo, Saturday, 25 February 2017 04:10 (nine years ago)

yeah uh this is amazing jordan otm

k3vin k., Saturday, 25 February 2017 04:16 (nine years ago)

the idea that a band who pulled off soul so flawlessly on "if i believe you" hasn't earned the right to tackle sade does not scan to me

k3vin k., Saturday, 25 February 2017 04:49 (nine years ago)

ok I need to hear that Chvrche s cover, and this one too.

Mark G, Saturday, 25 February 2017 14:23 (nine years ago)

their last album is still so good btw

k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 03:41 (nine years ago)

oh it's one year old today!

ufo, Sunday, 26 February 2017 04:24 (nine years ago)

is it just me or is "change of heart" super hats-y, especially the beginning

k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 04:45 (nine years ago)

"please be naked" too tbh

k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 05:02 (nine years ago)

yes to both

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Sunday, 26 February 2017 05:35 (nine years ago)

it's very easy to imagine a paul buchanan vocal over please be naked

ufo, Sunday, 26 February 2017 05:47 (nine years ago)

has enough time passed for us to poll the album

k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 18:05 (nine years ago)

omg yeah

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Sunday, 26 February 2017 18:32 (nine years ago)

i'm going for it

k3vin k., Sunday, 26 February 2017 19:51 (nine years ago)

one month passes...

btw "by your side" still slays

k3vin k., Friday, 7 April 2017 21:27 (nine years ago)

slaaaaays.

k3vin k., Tuesday, 11 April 2017 20:38 (nine years ago)

sremms on 'perfect pint' is the only legitimate sade tribute tbh
