this unused track is good:
I love this album; when I introduced my wife to it she was stunned to find out it was Elton. The Americana of the early 70s was so much better than its return 20 years later.
Went with "My Father's Gun," but there isn't a dud on it.

Wonderful album. My favourite is 'Come Down in Time'.
― dubmill, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 11:46 (fifteen years ago) link
Oh, and I always liked 'Into the Old Man's Shoes' as well. I had it on the b-side of 'Your Song'.

This is stellar. I am not an Elton John fan, but this album is great. Voted "Burn Down the Mission"

too hard

it'll be amoreena or burn down the mission, but i'd like to put in a good word for where to now, st. peter? - just the little arpeggio that opens the verse is gold
also i quite like madman...

madman will be the next poll. I <3 that album too, but it has pretty obv filler, unlike TC

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

I only just saw this, but I would have voted for Amoreena, as it totall yhits me at the beginning of Dog Day afternoon.
wouldn't have changed the results much, but just sayin'

yeah I would have gone with that too for the same reason, couldn't believe it was Elton John when i checked it out in the end credits

wow, the "Madman Across The Water" on the deluxe edition of this album is terrific! Mick Ronson on guitar! A nine minute epic! Is this what "November Rain" was going for?
― Euler, Sunday, 14 February 2010 13:55 (fourteen years ago) link
otm, would be interesting if it were on tumbleweed
― iatee, Sunday, 14 February 2010 19:03 (fourteen years ago) link
'into the old man's shoes' - also good
― iatee, Sunday, 14 February 2010 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link
oh I mentioned that earlier
yeah, this "Madman" wouldn't have fit in very well on Tumbleweed, I don't think: it's actually sorta heavy in parts, and would stick out. But it could have fit on side 2, maybe...although if I were to drop a song, maybe I'd drop "Son of Your Father" and it could fit there alright, a blast after "Country Comfort".

It's my favourite, but that'snot to say it's not spotty. I am interested to see what the others made of it when I took it to record club.
