xxxp they dumped their interest in all kinds of artists for pettier reasons!
I mean, it was the mid-90s and I remember overhearing some kids debating whether No Doubt were really part of the ska revival, or if getting pop radio play was an instant disqualifier, or if they'd drifted away from some weird genre purity test
kids that age are all about finding boundaries, edge cases to figure out where ideas and people fit in relation to each other and when someone they look to in their culture does something unexpected they have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new picture

xp
which is interesting because what sounds we like may differ from the artist's original intent
and in the politically driven and racially driven climate the u.s. is in, it creates this tension on who you should listen to and what it says about you as a person

yes nowhere else in the world or human history have people ever treated art as something social and related to their identity and place of being in the world, this is uniquely because america uniquely has this thing called "politics" you moron, you utter fucking fool.

What about
C) real anti-imperialists who hate musk and are upset at grimes for making a joke of their movement.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 May 2018 19:06 (seven years ago)
She’s 30 now, the naive, immature cutey brand she had is getting closer to annoying, woman-child.
which are all legitimate reasons to hate Elon Musk and be upset that Grimes is dating him I suppose. but it's not her politics, it just seems like a total jump the shark moment aesthetically.
Somehow I don't think it's Grimes' ideals that need to be called into question here.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 May 2018 19:10 (seven years ago)
You guys are actually reducing an artist's entire aesthetic and belief system down to who she's fucking and acting like it makes you the progressive ones.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 May 2018 19:12 (seven years ago)
don't worry she's taking imperialism down from the inside

just gonna go ahead and say it
grimes was a very typical vancouverite (looks, attitude, and everything) who still never fully realized til she moved to a big city (hello los angeles) her anti-establishment/radical socialist ideas have no place in the modern world -- it's vancouver's and mayor gregor robertson's "greenest city"/vision vancouver ploy
now she doesn't really want to handle the consequences of her ideas if she goes through with them from a practical conclusion/view

srsly tho vancouver norms trying to claim grimes is even lamer than mtl hipsters who can’t keep her name out their mouth being overfamiliar and creepy-mean. ‘This person went to elementary school in my city so i have special knowledge of her’ lol stfu leave my Nazi princess alone

I think the idea of artists being shaped by their cities is kinda exaggerated, especially in the era of internet/globalisation.
― Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 22 May 2018 19:53 (seven years ago)
I find Whiney's position mystifying here -- Grimes is actively caping for a union-buster, fuck that, she gets to absorb some heat for that -- but find his Primus clip just delightful so it's a wash

She explicitly defended Musk & Tesla's very dubious business and labor practices on Twitter. Like Joan said, it's an explicit endorsement of politics many of her fans find repulsive.
