What's my fascination with posting in this thread? Well, I guess that would have something to do with the fact that I'm looking forward to The 1975's next album and as a result am reading this thread and press surrounding the album.

That people are throwing their toys out of the pram because I have the nerve to like this bands music while thinking their singer is an idiot is not really my problem.

I think there's a chance people are still annoyed because you spent five years trolling this thread and the end of year lists any time they placed about how much you hated them. It's not that you disliked them, it's how you expressed your views over and over again obviously looking for trouble or to get a rise out of their fans. Now it just seems like that even though you've come around to the music, that people can already see the pattern where you're going to bring up how much you hate him as a person every single time. The repetition is tedious and I honestly don't know how you can be bothered with this style of posting all the time.

If we could get back to discussing the music rather than the Cult of Matty bawling away, that would be wonderful.

there's no new music to talk about, so we're talking about this story, a conversation you're derailing, even though people are pleading with you to stop. you can't just come back when there's a conversation you can actually contribute to? i don't get it.

I think what people need to do is stop getting aggressive when people say something they don't like about a member of a band they like. This conversation wouldn't have taken the turn it did had this not happened.

actually this is simply about people asking you to stop and you insisting that you don't have to, which is technically true but insanely exasperating. so here we are.

Ironically (and I literally made this very point two hours ago) Matt is actually quite smart and perceptive in his analysis of his songwriting and the interview contains quite a few examples of that.

Hmm. This isn't particularly enlightening - I mean, it's pretty much a given that any kind of popular music is going to soundtrack the time in which it was released in some way or another, and Healy wouldn't be the first musician to have ever said anything like this.

I'm not a fan of Hats, but if the band end up making an album like what Tim describes then it'd be superb.

I'm glad we're finally talking about music again rather than getting upset that someone who once hated your band now likes your band, or getting upset that someone likes certain parts of the discography but not others, or getting upset because someone likes the music but doesn't think highly of the person who made it.

Reading his simplified opinions on drugs is way more boring than anything any band member says, and far more tedious. Before you try to dog me for drugs as well mate, I’m 5 weeks clean and going strong

I'd love to ask your man Healy what he made of his Dad's singing and dressing up in Tickle On The Tum. Must have been an influence on him of sorts. It was great back in the day seeing someone known for starring at prime-time as a hard guy on a building site (Auf Wiedersehen Pet, a bloody HUGE show at the time too) playing second fiddle to Ralph McTell and generally clowning around in a daytime kid's show.

This is Drake-level, and I don't mean that in any kind of nice way.

It's a departure from the first two, but I like it.

i think i like it better than "the sound"

it does kinda sound like "cheerleader" tho lol

but it's a pretty direct branch off some of the other stuff they've done... not incredibly dissimilar from i.e. "m.o.n.e.y."

it feels a lot more monochromatic / less dynamic than something like "The Sound." I feel like it yearns for some more content to go with that groove, but that might just be me and my disinterest in this sorta jam

yeah the comparisons aren't off but i feel like those two tracks both capitalize on space in a way this doesn't, "m.o.n.e.y." w the vocal syncopation, "the sound" w the prechorus swings out to snap back in at the chorus

seems kind of bad, when dorian said they were channeling drake i wasn’t imagining trop house drake of a few years ago... but we already know most of the rest of the album won’t be like this so im not stressed . plus it’ll prob grow on me
