Not a lot of overlap with UK charts there.

It's always amazed me how much "My Maria" already sounded like a Brooks & Dunn song that of course they had to cover it.

A lot of dross on this one imo. Going for "Maria."

"My Maria." B.W. also recorded "Shambala," but lost the hit to Three Dog Night.

(Which is probably the link before my post--oops.)
No, it wasn’t. Don’t worry. When I said “sounds like” it was a *humble* way of saying “it is.”

Nah, it's the correct version of "My Maria".
If I remember my liner notes right, "Shambala" was pitched to 3DN by a song plugger, who turned around after they agreed to cut the song and pitched it to Stevenson. the 3DN camp caught wind of this, rushed into the studio to record and mix the song, with acetates being helicoptered out to specific radio stations immediately afterwards.

The El Chicano song is hawt, which also reminds me that "Sauvecito" by Malo really should have been on one of these comps.

These polls have had me doing some "where are they now" research. Stevenson died undergoing heart valve surgery in 1988 at the age of 38.

These comps are always gonna be hit and miss, but there is some truly unlistenable shit on this one. "The Playground in My Mind" and "Funny Face" are like being force-fed syrup through your nostrils.

The album version of Also Sprach Zarathustra, nine minutes of Deodato's band jamming in C7, is kind of great in a Bitches Brew lite way. Billy Cobham and Stanley Clarke shine.

"Sauvecito" by Malo really should have been on one of these comps.
It's on one of the Rhino "Soul Hits of the '70s" comps.

Gallery sneaking' up on the rails suddenly in the representation stakes in this series. Sadly, this one seems to have been their last hit, so assume this is the last time we'll see them. They almost got my vote in fact this time but Albert Hammond's moog and oh so anglophile enunciation of the lyrics just pips them.

Don’t think I’ve heard either the Gallery song or The Albert Hammond song here.

Before the hysteria begins: I didn't vote for it, but I don't hate "Dueling Banjos" or anything. In the context of the film, it's pretty great. As a radio hit...I can't imagine what it would be like to to hear "Dueling Banjos" over a car radio.
― clemenza, Wednesday, 15 August 2018 00:03 (six years ago) link
“Dueling Banjos” is fantastic and it was my vote. Am I correct that one of the banjos isn’t even a banjo? It’s an acoustic guitar, yes?

thank u 5 voters, you restored my faith in ilmalso this comp is so dire i am not surprised it won

The voter I want to hear from is "The Morning After" vote. I figure there's got to be a great story there...a 120-year-old Titanic survivor or something.
