This is Drake-level, and I don't mean that in any kind of nice way.

It's a departure from the first two, but I like it.

i think i like it better than "the sound"

it does kinda sound like "cheerleader" tho lol

but it's a pretty direct branch off some of the other stuff they've done... not incredibly dissimilar from i.e. "m.o.n.e.y."

it feels a lot more monochromatic / less dynamic than something like "The Sound." I feel like it yearns for some more content to go with that groove, but that might just be me and my disinterest in this sorta jam

yeah the comparisons aren't off but i feel like those two tracks both capitalize on space in a way this doesn't, "m.o.n.e.y." w the vocal syncopation, "the sound" w the prechorus swings out to snap back in at the chorus

seems kind of bad, when dorian said they were channeling drake i wasn’t imagining trop house drake of a few years ago... but we already know most of the rest of the album won’t be like this so im not stressed . plus it’ll prob grow on me

feels like it's a minute and a half, just kind of floats along, fun little song

closest antecedent of theirs to my ears is probably "so far (it's alright)"

i can see the Drake comparison in terms of the "top line" which is. three. 🎵 notes. 🎶. just those 🎵 three notes. on a slightly different order, and then again. 🎶

this is a little underwhelming, it's a good starting point for something but the killer hook I was expecting never appears and it just floats along without really going anywhere. the lyrics are also pretty bad and not in an endearingly ridiculous way either

I'm a little tipsy and it's pretty early so I don't want to say anything I'm going to regret but.......this song is really good, among their very best

christ, this is the best band in the world

there was a recent episode of The Ringer's On Shuffle podcast that brought in the Switched On Pop guys (who i'm usually eh on but felt a lot looser here) and they ended up talking a lot about the sort of downfall of dynamism in pop tracks (the rise of chill), and how the metric for quality is a little harder to pick out because of that.

this feels like a track that exploits its lack of dynamic shifts in a really good way (lots of little sonic details and tiny tonal shifts). so i guess i find the drake comparisons understandable but nowhere near as negative as some people are framing it—this is earworm drake, not unmemorable hookless drake.

the first two new songs set an impossibly high bar, it's understandable they can't keep that up. this is very much a throwaway, a b-side song though. which is ok.

the lyrics here are 100% fuckboi but i'm extremely into the sound design and it's probably the single i've enjoyed the most from this era so far

xps to austinb, will give that a listen! track's growing on me a bit, i dig how it feels like a fluttering that ends up stuck in a groove for most of it (the color-switching video helps accentuate that probably)

Okay I think this is great.

It’s “throwaway” but deliberately so, the whole point is the layering which is much more intricate than your typical tropical track.

Basically i’m suspecting it will be the third album’s “Talk!”

haha def wasn't the tipsiness, I'm quite enamored. I must have played it 20 times already. I'm just so impressed by how well they're able to pull off all these different styles

What are you talking about? I've made absolutely no comment on this new track, or any new track from the forthcoming record. I'm waiting to hear the tracks for the first time in the context of the LP.

i think this problem has become more pronounced on twitter (going back to tumblr maybe) but there's a definite sense to me that people let who they see on twitter liking something shape their impression of what kind of people like something even if its wholly unrepresentative

not saying that's what's happening w/ katherine per se but the way you phrased this reminded me of this point ... i find it super frustrating but also occasionally funny

yeah the 1975's fanbase is the a pop fanbase.... it's mostly younger people, girls especially. at least at the shows i've seen.

there is a list of men I ever want to hear repeat anything from the Billy Bush tape, ironically or not, and that list has zero people on it
