a less dramatic version of "if i believe you", i suppose.
i'm playing it on a loop.

Nourry, Thursday, 13 September 2018 14:11 (seven years ago)

it's maybe a little too obviously a sequel of "if i believe you" but given that that's the best song of all time i am not complaining

This one is probably my favorite out of the four new songs.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 13 September 2018 16:38 (seven years ago)

Clever bastards.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 September 2018 18:06 (seven years ago)

questlove on the drums or?

Machine Gunk Jelly (Spottie), Thursday, 13 September 2018 18:13 (seven years ago)

November 30 seems so far away.

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 13 September 2018 18:25 (seven years ago)

I get why people are referencing "if I believe you" but this has a totally different feel for me, it's much more live-sessiony in a way that stands in contrast to IIBY's studio perfection, more jazzy, I fuck with it tho. that said I'm surprised it's made such an immediate impression on a couple of true heads itt, seems like more of a slow burner

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 September 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)

I almost wish this band would make a bad song so they'd be more relatable or something

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 September 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)

on spotify now btw

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 September 2018 21:35 (seven years ago)

do they have any songs that are 'bad'? I can't think of any I totally dislike

k3vin k., Thursday, 13 September 2018 21:36 (seven years ago)

only songs i didn't at least like on contact were "loving someone" and "she way out" and turns out they're both good

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 13 September 2018 22:15 (seven years ago)

some of the EP songs aren't their best maybe but basically no

J0rdan S., Thursday, 13 September 2018 22:48 (seven years ago)

eric otm with the d'angelo reference.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 13 September 2018 23:32 (seven years ago)

i have 0 problem with them doing more songs like If I Believe You and showing they can be a fantastic r&b band if they really want to be anytime, and the brass arrangement is even better here. not as funny as If I Believe You but what else is?

ufo, Friday, 14 September 2018 00:40 (seven years ago)

at the risk of turricanism, how is this band not named the 1985

mookieproof, Friday, 14 September 2018 01:02 (seven years ago)

I would have been into this band probably a year earlier if they were called the 1985 though now I kind of like their name

New song has a great vibe, though the hook didn't get me the first listen. Suspect this is one that will grow on me

Vinnie, Friday, 14 September 2018 03:11 (seven years ago)

I really liked "Sex" when it came out, but since then, I haven't found any reason to be interested in these guys, so I'm kind of surprised to find myself loving "TooTimeTooTimeTooTime" so much, annoying title aside. My latest favourite entry in whatever we want to call the genre that also (to my ears) encompasses Chvrches, MUNA, Kristen Control and things like that. And yeah, the video is a delight, too.

Engles in the Outfield (cryptosicko), Monday, 17 September 2018 23:21 (seven years ago)

(half of that was autocorrect's fault; the rest was all me)

i cant believe no one mentioned DILLA thats what it sounds like more than dangelo (obviously some overlap there but)

the staggered groove is a total

actually this one more

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Wednesday, 19 September 2018 03:32 (seven years ago)

yeah, questlove's drumming on Voodoo was all dilla-inspired, so they're both apt comparisons. The horns on it are very D'Angelo, too, so I think that's where a lot of the comparison comes from

i'm also proud to say that i didn't get Sincerity is Scary at all when i first heard it but now i absolutely love it

josh az (2011nostalgia), Wednesday, 19 September 2018 03:43 (seven years ago)

the horns are very roy hargrove who was used on a number of soulquarian projects helmed by dilla, Common's 'Like Water For Chocolate" is actually what came to mind for me first

i think matty mentioned dilla by name when talking about the drums on this song on twitter recently

princess of hell (BradNelson), Wednesday, 19 September 2018 07:36 (seven years ago)

the writer calling the album "snowflake computer" is the worst thing that's ever happened to me but this is a really good interview https://www.nme.com/nme-big-read-1975-2018-2382050-2

princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 21 September 2018 16:42 (seven years ago)

my fav photos of them from this round of press by a long shot

J0rdan S., Friday, 21 September 2018 16:43 (seven years ago)

how are we feeling about the Pale Waves album?

boxedjoy, Saturday, 22 September 2018 13:37 (seven years ago)

two weeks pass...

i was not really sold on most of the pale waves singles but the album is pretty solid. they have a tendency to write the same sort of hooks over and over again though, album could have been trimmed a bit.

ufo, Monday, 8 October 2018 14:40 (seven years ago)

that's basically how I felt about it - it's too long and there's two songs that share the exact same melody - but I still have a tremendous amount of goodwill towards them

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/11/arts/music/the-1975-matty-healy-interview.html

Matty continues to describe Notes as their 'UK nighttime album' influenced by Burial so i'm even more excited for that than i am for A Brief Enquiry

ufo, Saturday, 13 October 2018 05:00 (seven years ago)

"narcissist" is kind of amazing

J0rdan S., Monday, 15 October 2018 01:47 (seven years ago)

i'd imagine matty is very jealous he didn't write this song (assuming he didn't)

J0rdan S., Monday, 15 October 2018 01:48 (seven years ago)

he co-wrote and co-produced it

ufo, Monday, 15 October 2018 01:52 (seven years ago)

yeah shit bangs

k3vin k., Monday, 15 October 2018 02:09 (seven years ago)

that video hit me hard

princess of hell (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 07:26 (seven years ago)

next single is It's Not Living If It's Not With You out this thursday

i really haven't minded the drip feed approach they've taken this time, new songs monthly for a year straight (with an album half-way and another at the end) is pretty great

ufo, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 12:02 (seven years ago)

Do you think they'll add more dates to that tour or have another leg? I'm bummed they're not playing Calgary this time (they've played here for their past two albums) and strongly considering travelling to see them considering I haven't traveled in years

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 17:26 (seven years ago)

if their goal with that has been to build anticipation, they've certainly got me hooked. They've released four great tracks so far, if this new one is as great as the others it could have AOTY potential
