aside from "still going theme" i don't know anything on the after dark mix. the track after that is (a remix of?) "forever more" by moloko

Not that it helps but 5:59 on teh Visti Cosmic mix was used by Prins Thomas at the Gun Club last year. Its on the mix from that at around 35:00 of Part 1 of his mix.

I think, when we look back at Balearic, we'll see it peaked with Reinterpretations.

fred deakin 'nu balearica' mix looks spot-on
CD01: 1. Williams - Love On A Real Train 2. Aeroplane - Caramellas 3. In Fragranti - Additional Alpha Blocker 4. Kaoru Inoue The Secret Field (Todd Terje Remix) 5. Hatchback - White Diamond (Prins Thomas Miks Del 1 & 2) 6. Bogdan Irkϋk a.k.a Bulgari - Space Reflecting On The Bosporos 7. Antena - On The Boat (Rubber Room's Disco Devil Remix) 8. Sasse - Mount Juneau 9. Professor Genius - Across The Spree
. .

i loved deakins triptych 3 cd set given that it was totally all over the place and a fascinating listen. is this nu-balearic set a good'un for us newbies to the genre (loved AMO1/Studio stuff i have heard)

I haven't got it (YET) but from the tracklist alone it looks like the perfect overview. I listened to samples of the tracks I don't know and they all sound ace.
Possibly it might get a bit samey over two discs - it's the only commercial mix I've seen that hones in on this sound so consistently. But it looks very good.

absolutely. he's obviously a fan of the scene and pushed the licencing through sharpish, these making this a fine looking quickfire starter pack that i suspect i'm going to give in to my urges and buy in a few hours time.

yup. sounds great, looks great (proper effort in the packaging !), reads great. perfect for those of us who dont hunt out the limited 12" issues and wants to hear what this groove is all about. i also love the way that fred writes his mixes up. he did the same for triptych - makes the mix all the more personal

OMG Aeroplane live OMG
They were so good! When they were playing their own and similar stuff (Mungolian Jet Set remix of "Moon River", Tensnake remix of "I'll Be By Your Side" etc.) it was like the entire dancefloor was enveloped in a giant bubble of E. It was very deliberately populist and untasteful too - "Love Is In The Air", "Happy Together", "Heaven Is In The Backseat Of My Cadillac", plus a great bootleg of "God Only Knows" over melodramatic schaffel. All subjected to ridiculous amounts of EQ trickery. Also I liked how genuinely into the camp aspects of their aesthetic they are. As only one played at a time the other would be in the audience jumping up and down and getting everyone to sing along to their words of their own remixes (MGMT, Cut Copy, The Shortwave Set) with absolute unselfconsciousness. I was impressed, too, by the enthusiasm of the crowd, which I had initially thought was a lot of post-work revellers at the gig only by coincidence. But no, everyone seemed to recognise the Aeroplane tracks (mind you it's not hard to), and half the crowd ended up singing along to "Your Love". I was most disturbed by a small crowd of fine-looking young homosexual men who appeared to know every word of Matias Aguayo's "Minimal".

Also based on the Resident Advisor description of the track I'm pretty sure they played Patrice Baumel's "Roar" - RA says it sounds more like a lawnmower revving up and conking out over and over again, and that is exactly what this massive track was like. In effect it was a bit like "Doppelwhipper" - massive crowd response.

Best part of the Aeroplane set was when one of them dropped Robin S's "Show Me Love" and drew a comparatively muted response from the crowd - the look he gave everyone was of confused astonishment, like "WTF is wrong with you this are best track ever!"
― Tim F, Monday, 25 August 2008 05:24 (sixteen years ago) link
lol read 'lovelock' as 'pipecock'
― deej, Monday, 25 August 2008 08:22 (sixteen years ago) link
Tim - 'Roar' is a bit like a whole record built around the chainsaw noise in Mouth To Mouth but kind of... bigger and wider. And no kick drum.
― Matt DC, Monday, 25 August 2008 17:27 (sixteen years ago) link
So yeah, probably the same track.

I've tracked down "Roar" in the intervening time. A bit hard to sustain itself on its own but what a great track in the mix. Aeroplane kept on mixing back in and out of the fucked up section for about six minutes or so.

finally got around to giving the new WEWW 12"s i bought a listen, love laughing light of plenty track "the rose." it gives you a real feel for how Thom contributed to the MOA project, also it gives off a woolfy vs. projections vibe.
the dr. dunks album is more laid-back balearic, subtle developments over slow grooves with etherial piano dripped over the top and ambient synth add to the atmosphere. lovin it
― san frandisco, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 21:24 (sixteen years ago) link
that's for "the phone," love savage introduces a balearic synth-poppy vibe next to grinding guitars and more jarring textures in the middle, both amazing though
