psychgawsple, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 05:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i found one fairly easily on s1sk if you wanna go that route

on the same just-the-right-side-of-cheesy, this is huge for me (not the longer 7-minute version i have but still very nice):

speaking of the blue nile, i have this balearic mike set on my computer where he drops an instrumental version of "heatwave" - was surprised at how well it worked in the context of the set

The only other one I know is this New Order one - which I'm not sure is balearic (and the guy who posted this Youtube vid found it in the same place I did). Doesn't seem to any thread on DMC mixes. Perhaps we should start one...

Balearic content in this post... anyone heard the House of House remix of A Mountain of One yet?

Treblekicker, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 21:42 (fifteen years ago) link

for those without soulseek access, here's the donna summer/david cassidy megamix - http://www.divshare.com/download/7640937-c07

i guess the dmc is a really prominent organization for battle-djs/turntablists etc, so i feel silly now for not having heard about it

psychgawsple, Friday, 12 June 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

ya, i was wondering if it was the same DMC. so are these things like current mashups then?

Anyone heard the Kool DJ Dust record? Lots of spacey re-edited disco loops, excellent summer fun.

I'm gonna go to London for a weekend and this will be on:

http://www.ukmusic.com/forum/events/july-10th-london-bill-brewster-free-entry-51291.html

Hoping to hear some good Balearic vibes, there's no clubs interested in the movement whatsoever here in Oporto. Any advice on how much earlier one should show up? I'm guessing this'll be packed, being free and all?

henrik schwarz on beats in space played a fantastic remix of something by 'visti & meyland', i assume that's our man, check it out because it's good.

― juniper jazz (haitch), Friday, May 8, 2009 4:06 AM (1 month ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

the henrik schwarx remix is great in it's own right, but the original is a rad little nu-balearic cut with spanish guitars, tribal percussion etc that i can't get enough of right now. the old bluesy sample is pretty effective, too- even if it weirdly reminds me of moby or something

psychgawsple, Saturday, 27 June 2009 01:44 (fifteen years ago) link

that sample bugs the shit out of me which is sad since the track is great

marcia the hoover (jergins), Saturday, 27 June 2009 01:59 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^completely understandable, actually

psychgawsple, Saturday, 27 June 2009 03:46 (fifteen years ago) link

i dig it even if it's definitely gimmicky

tensnake mix on beats in space = a++

01. Hot Toddy feat. Ron Basejam - I Need Love

haha this guy is doing balearic now??

mustafa moe money (deej), Thursday, 16 July 2009 09:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Some of the previous Hot Toddy stuff was pretty close anyway. Which duo is he in again? Crazy Penis?

Tim F, Thursday, 16 July 2009 10:41 (fifteen years ago) link

that dance disorder track is good.

easily-led zeppelin (haitch), Thursday, 16 July 2009 11:11 (fifteen years ago) link

that hot toddy track is pretty good too. looks like this comp should turn out much better than the first, even though i seem to be one of the only people defending it anymore ("don't turn away from my love" still gets loads of rotation on my tables)

psychgawsple, Thursday, 16 July 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

and i know i'm being kinda spammy this morning but you can dl that visti and meyland track here

psychgawsple, Thursday, 16 July 2009 17:18 (fifteen years ago) link

the new cosmic balearic beats is like 100x better than the first

space cowboy (san frandisco), Thursday, 16 July 2009 18:56 (fifteen years ago) link

I really liked the first volume. I started listening to it again a few weeks ago but I can see where the criticisms levelled at it on the Disco Horror blog are coming from

groovypanda, Thursday, 16 July 2009 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

there's a ton of discussion upthread about the first volume. i don't remember specifics but everyone else kinda decided they were disappointed- i think i was saying that i preferred it to fred deakin's 'nu balearica' comp on ministry of sound but nobody agreed, etc.

psychgawsple, Thursday, 16 July 2009 22:16 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't even agree with that anymore tho ha

psychgawsple, Thursday, 16 July 2009 22:20 (fifteen years ago) link

The Milky Disco series is my favourite I think.

Desmond Decca Aitkenhead (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 July 2009 22:35 (fifteen years ago) link

it's not that i hated Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol 1, but it just kinda fell flat on the mix side. wasn't bad though. but the second one is really rad. I feel similarly about the Milky Disco series. Vol 2 >>> Vol 1, but Vol 1 isn't bad

space cowboy (san frandisco), Thursday, 16 July 2009 23:32 (fifteen years ago) link

07. Premier Rang - Zoé et Heine

there's a new 12" by them on IDIB that I saw at other music the other day but I didn't know what they were all about, anyone heard?

dmr, Friday, 17 July 2009 03:52 (fifteen years ago) link

I had a hard time listening to Fred Deakin's Nu Balearica (CD 2). Is it just me or it really is boring?

balearic is boring
